This was a 1st Line IT Support for Internet Connectivity role, telephone based. Cablecom were providing a broadband solution to student accomodation provider UNITE. I'd had no prior experience in this but picked up solutions quickly and with good communications skills was able to handle calls from international students with limited knowledge of the English language.

My role involved delegating work, processing work requests and keeping communication lines open between the school and the Facilities Management team. I successfully helped achieve the companies' targets and customer profile.

I managed the family business where I was responsible for a 9 bedroom country house hotel with a bar and a 65-seater restaurant. I was in charge of a team of 12 and tasks ranged from working the front of house to completing banking and VAT returns, to cooking breakfast for guests.

As a media forecaster I worked the bench that provided weather forecasts for Scottish TV, Grampian TV and Teletext-based services using computer models and my degree education. Data analysis and interpretation were used in conjunction with personal knowledge and experience; a high level of written communication skills were required to produce high quality scripts.

I was temping at this time, first at HSBC in Yate then moving to Plymouth and working as a cashier in the main branch. In addition to the need for a high level of customer service this role also trusted me with the management of large amounts of cash and sensitive customer account information.

An elected sabbatical in charge of a students' union with a turnover exceeding £1 million pounds a year. In addition to managing a staff of over 40 people, my responsibilities included running the Students' Union's bars, retail outlets, insurance, budgets, entertainment; liaising with the University and representing both the University and its students at the annual NUS conference. I was also a valued member of the University's Board of Governors.
