I am a serial technology entrepreneur who has founded five companies from inception, nurtured them through early developments and seen three of them to exit.As a CEO, my most natural inclination is to lead the sales and product teams towards finding product / market fit, closing initial deals, evolving the product strategy to meet customer needs and prove the market.I have created and managed sales execution models including B2C, B2B and combinations of both including channel and direct selling.I have broad management experience with all other areas of C-level leadership decision making including capital raising, financial modeling, marketing, positioning, legal and corporate governance, HR, customer service and public speaking.I recruit highly functional teams that can execute quickly and think outside of the box. I believe in actively nurturing corporate culture and consider a strong culture to be competitive differentiator.I have raised millions of dollars of capital at all stages and from different types of investors. (seed, institutional and public markets under Reg CF rules), however I believe that limited access to capital creates more focussed and efficient businesses.I am passionate about the entrepreneurial process, and inspired most by growth, success and helping new ideas come to fruition. I consider tenacity to be one of the primary reasons for my success.I was born and raised in South Africa where I studied business and marketing with an economics major. I am a devoted father of three wonderful children and live in Marin, CA. When I am not working I spend time kite boarding, and walking my dogs.

In 2017 I lead the company through an oversubscribed seed investment round under the Reg CF rules, and followed with additional $9m of capital in a Series A round from institutional investors. We then launched a B2B service offering making our doctors service available as a white label offering to over 100 cannabis retailers and brands, and launched operations in Canada closing Shoppers Drug Mart and other cannabis licensees as marquee clients. HelloMD continues on today as a leading medical brand in the cannabis industry.

I met the Addlive team when they were a UK based company under a different name, and with no customers or revenue. Working with the founder, I rebranded the company as AddLive, and helped incorporate it in the US as a Delaware company.AddLive provided video conferencing services using the emerging WebRTC protocol under development by Google and others. In the following months, I lead the go-to-market effort for AddLive in the US through an OEM strategy. I helped close the first customers and revenue, which provided the credibility to provide services to Snapchat under the same model. Three days before releasing the video conferencing features in Snapchat, they acquired AddLive for $30m +.

I founded nScaled in 2009, providing Disaster Recovery-as-a-Service (DRaaS), also called recovery-in-the-cloud, to mid-size companies worldwide. I came up with the concept, recruited a highly proficient technical team, engineered the services and closed early customers. The service was highly technical and fault intolerant dealing with critical services and infrastructure. Early clients included well know venture capital firms (including Sequoia Capital), large international law firms (like Cooley), regional banks, universities and others. Several clients were paying us over $500,000 annually. We operated data centers in the US and UK and provided services to clients in both markets. Once we achieved some critical mass of customers, I lead funding rounds totaling $7m for the Series A from leading silicon valley angel investors as well as institutional capital.This company was acquired by Acronis for $18m.

I founded this SaaS company with a vision to combine disparate channel sales organizations into an integrated, dynamic community. My experience running a channel of over 200 partners had highlighted the difficulty in getting partner sales teams to perform in a coordinated fashion. AccountMaven provided a single SaaS platform whereby smaller ISV's could promote their channel sales assets and agenda's and tap into an established community of channel sales professionals for mutual exchanges of sales intelligence.I recruited the founding team, engineered the product from inception to launch and in the first 18 months closed first enterprise customers. Additionally I negotiated a joint licensing deal with one of the largest channel media companies in North America. Ultimately the product never gained critical mass with individual community members (a critical aspect of the strategy) and we elected to disband it while pivoting into a new venture. I learned valuable lessons in this process about what it takes to be successful with SaaS and online community development.

Workshare is a company I co-founded in London in 1998. Workshare provides document collaboration software that enables people to accurately create and control high-value content more efficiently. Workshare dominates the market with over 8,000 customers and close to 2m end users. Shortly after founding the company and acquiring our first customers, I relocated to the US and established the NA presence in San Francisco running sales, marketing, business development and support. I established a channel sales program with over 200 alliance partners (SI, ISV's and others).I was a board member and part of the fund raising process securing Angel funding of $750,000, then Series A with Spark Capital (then Quester) of $4.5m, and finally Series B with Intel Capital and SteelPoint Capital of $26m.At my time of leaving the company was delivering $20m in sales ($2m in profit) with 99% renewals. I helped recruit the new CEO and left the company shortly thereafter to start a new venture.
