As the town's Building Official I am responsible for administering the State Building Code; issuing building permits; performing code compliance reviews of construction documents for large & complex projects; overseeing inspections; issuing certificates of occupancy; performing preliminary land use reviews; coordinating with other municipal departments; advising building owners on compliance and permits. I am also the town's Zoning Enforcement Officer. The department is staffed with 4 assistant building officials, 2 property maintenance inspectors, 1 assistant ZEO, and 2 administrative clerks.I also participate as an active member of ad-hoc building committees for the Raymond Library Expansion, new East Hartford Senior Center, and Wickham Branch Library expansion. I am a member of the town's Sustainability Team. I also participate on the mayor's Neighborhood Enhancement & Anti-blight Taskforce (NEAT).

I managed the Meriden, CT office of this mid-size Architectural-Engineering firm. Duties included account management, project architectural design, coordination with in-house structural, civil, MEP engineers and outside consultants. We were affiliated with Codespoti & Associates, PC and together designed multi-family and commercial developments.

Stratford, Ct

Managed the startup of the architectural design department at this civil engineering/surveying/landscape architecture firm. Here I deepened my knowledge of site planning, topography, land use, planning and zoning and how these elements integrate with building design. We designed multi-family and commercial developments. As the business grew, we established Codespoti Design Group, PC to provide building design from a new branch office in Meriden, CT and I was promoted to manage that operation.

Waterbury, Ct

I worked as an associate to Richard K. Merrell, Architect producing construction drawings for solar homes and office buildings. Richard is a talented designer and it was exciting to work in the forefront of passive solar design, especially double envelope buildings. The challenge was to take Richard's designs and translate them into working drawings.

New Haven, Ct

I was on temporary assignment to this firm in New Haven, CT for the design of the Oriental Gardens project for the New Haven Housing Authority.

Norfolk, Ct

Worked temporarily for Boyce Nemec, a leading audio/visual designer in Norfolk, CT. I worked on the design of the board room and conference rooms for the Pitney Bowes corporate headquarters and the projection system for the Wheeler Opera House in Aspen, CO. For the Pitney Bowes project we collaborated with I.M. Pei & Partners.

The current firm is known as Ames & Whitaker Architects in Southington, CT. I literally walked into their office unannounced one morning with a roll of drawings under my arm and was hired on the spot as an architectural drafter working under the partners T. Gregory Ames and Robert Sapack and learning a lot from Roy Gilley, Al Kunkas, Richard Merrell and Tony Picanza. It was there that I worked with Rick Moisan who became a successful residential architect starting Moisan Architects before his untimely death. We designed high-rise senior housing, bank branch offices, a community college campus, and other structures. It was here that I learned the significance of understanding building and fire codes, how to prepare specifications and bidding documents, and refined my detailing techniques. Greg Ames was not afraid of giving me assignments even if I didn't have previous experience. I would hit the books, stay up at night practicing, and come in and do the job. I am grateful to Greg and Bob for giving me the opportunity to work and mature in their firm.

This was my father's design practice in Rexton, New Brunswick, Canada and Watertown, CT. Prepared drawings mostly for custom residences, Kingdom Halls of Jehovah's Witnesses throughout North America, and some commercial buildings. I learned a tremendous amount from my father including a strong work ethic, high quality drafting and document preparation skills, and the basics of the design business.
