My YouTube channel 'HaveYouEverWondered' (HYEW) is dedicated to making science related videos for general public consumption. Content includes: vlogs, educational shorts, music videos and science news analysis. The channel has received over 11,000 views to date, and I have received an award from the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) for my content. I efficiently delivered tasks in a range of technology transfer activities (including patent execution and IP management), reviewing research contracts, and negotiating rates and terms for academic and clinical industry related research collaborations. IP Capture and management:- Identifying patentable IP (through invention disclosure and prior art search) and working with Inventors to progress through to filing - Managing the publishing of copyright works including relevant assignments, negotiation, and payment of royalties- Negotiating license terms for institutional IP- Using workflow tools to manage cases and the IP portfolio (Asana and Inteum)Contractual and Financial Management:- Managing academic consultancies including costing and negotiation, contract review and post-contractual follow up - Reviewing contracts, negotiating IP/commercial terms and providing advice on costing for industrial collaborations - Coordinating the setup of Investigator-Initiated Trials Educational Enterprise and Technology Transfer:- Creation and implementation of the first Student Business Concept Awards to promote entrepreneurship within the student cohort (six-week bootcamp followed by Dragon’s Den pitching event)- Creation and management of the St George’s Enterprise social media accounts including generating IP based content and implementing a content marketing strategy

Research Associate at the Institute for Bioengineering on an MRC funded UKRMP project to develop 3D implantable liver organoids for liver failure treatment. Worked on the development and production of the cell scaffolds and devices for the project. Current bioartificial liver (BAL) devices are limited by both the lack of functionality and their bulky design. Therefore functional, implantable BALs offer a therapeutic advantage over existing devices to bridge patients to transplantation or spontaneous recovery. This project brings together 6 groups in 4 universities across the UK to develop an implantable BAL using induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) derived hepatocytes on tailored electrospun scaffolds and housed in 3D printed devices. These 3D implantable liver organoids are then assessed in vivo in rat models to demonstrate a novel device for the treatment of liver failure.

Research Associate on the BAL project developing an off the shelf Bioartificial liver device as a bridge to transplantation. In collaboration with Asymptote Ltd and funded by Innovate UK.The generation of a functional bioartificial liver (BAL) device is essential in meeting the clinical demand for the increasing prevalence of acute-on-chronic liver failure. The project aims to generate an ‘off the shelf’ BAL by engineering the systems and methods for scalable controlled processing, and generating encapsulated, cryopreserved hepatocytes, which are not available in the market to date.

The position included all aspects of bespoke plastic preformed unit manufacturing including drawing, cutting and a variety of welding techniques including hot air and high frequency welding.

Duties included the designing and customising of logos and motifs and printing on a range of products. This spanned the process of meeting customers, translating their requirements to products, meeting deadlines and keeping good customer relations.
