Leading a team of engineers and architects responsible for developing and deploying internationalization technology and infrastructure across all of PayPal. Our team's applications, APIs, services, and internal professional services are used by C++, Java, Node, and JS clients to help increase the quality and reach of connected commerce worldwide. As part of internationalization, our metadata, libraries, and applications use a standards-based approach, relying on Unicode and CLDR, with significant portions adding compliance and regulatory components for verifications during onboarding. We work closely with product teams, regional managers, and the open source community, and utilize customer and partner feedback to fine-tune our APIs.
As an i18n Architect, I provide analysis, requirements, specifications, and guidance to our i18n engineering team. I write requirements and specifications for company-wide services, data structures, and where best to inject i18n or compliance validations into the web flows and backend business rules. I also provide internal consulting, analysis, and recommended best approaches to product teams. As an i18n Engineering Manager, I built up the team, set directions, product strategy, and embraced agile development methodologies to see our team deliver high-quality best-of-breed i18n libraries and solutions.
PayPal, which includes Braintree, Venmo, Xoom, and Paydiant allows people to send and receive money without sharing financial information. Consumers can purchase goods and transfer money with PayPal across more than 200 countries in over two dozen currencies around the world, enabling global ecommerce. 

The job of my team is to make sure those 193 markets and dozens of currencies, as well as the associated user experiences work seamlessly and naturally in every language.

Directing efforts to build webservices solutions to provide research materials to over 200,000 students and 150,000 staff spread over ten campuses, six medical centers, and three national laboratories. Resdient Unicode and non-English langauge expert for extensive international digital holdings and licensed content. Member of Minority Scripts Project with UC Berkeley to review submissions of new script proposals to the Unicode Standard.

One of three founding partners of a non-profit organization. Formed to foster the development of a cross-industry network of leaders responsible for managing various aspects of corporate globalization, such as global product development; developing and implementing globalization standards; and managing multi-functional, multi-cultural and multi-national teams. The main product was a Globalization Management Strategies Conference, the first of which was held in May 1999. GMSC 2007 was held in Monterey, CA in late Winter 2007, in association with The GLOBE Center at the Monterey Institute of International Studies.

Convey Software, formerly know as eTranslate.com. As Director of Product Management, led requirements, specification, and market research efforts for an advanced customer-focused process automation system. Worked closely with development teams as well as sales to determine key requirements. Led customer focus groups and gathered feedback for new product ideas. Through effective market research, saved VC investors several million dollars.

Directed globalization strategy for all products worldwide, in a multidisciplinary, regional approach across marketing, sales, professional services, and engineering. Developed a strategy for the Globalization Engineering Group, defining roles, responsibilities, and structure, with an International ROI-based model to fund it. Reduced international release cycle by over 60%. Implemented strategy for global aspects of exchange, auction, logistics, payment, and customer relationship modules. Developed a corporate Globalization Standard to define product and technology requirements for all products across all technologies. Spearheaded the Corporate Web Globalization Initiative to globalize the corporate web site and provide standard tools to be used by all marketing, publications and development groups for consistent process and significant cost-savings. Received two Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards for my efforts in e-Business globalization.

Directed product management and architecture of globalization aspects of all products within the Sybase Enterprise Portal bundled solutions, plus consulting and public relations. Pursued funding and founded the Global Products Group to gather internationalization (I18N) expertise from around the company into a centralized team to lend product management, design, localization, and consulting services to all product divisions. Spent one year in Europe acting as a product specialist and strategist where I formed the MAITS (Multilingual Application Interface for Telematic Services) Consortium with 50% European Union (EU) funding as a joint effort with six other nations. Provided I18N consulting service to key internal and external customers. Started the Sybase Asia Development Centre in Singapore. Gained experience in negotiating multi-million dollar contracts.
