About Me >In the nutshell I’m a highly experienced and calm professional. I’m a veteran of the Gulf War and the Iraq War, and have both British Gulf War and Iraq medals as well as awards from the United States Department of Defense. I’ve also survived 2 bouts of cancer, with the first involving 3 cycles of chemotherapy. l spent my early career seeking fluency in Arabic, hence joining the British Army Intelligence Corps and subsequently, after the Gulf War, taking a Bachelors degree in Arabic. I’ve lived in Egypt, Iraq and the Levant, and travelled extensively, including to Thailand, Turkey and most European countries. Dealing with people over many years as a linguist and analyst I’ve acquired great skills in active listening and other aspects of communications, as well as being a skilled mediator and problem-solver. As well as Arabic, I’m at professional standard in French. I’ve worked in many office jobs in the UK and Middle East and have been a qualified IT trainer with considerable practical experience in IT, software programs and digital technology including social media, website design and 3d printing.About my Job >During 2024-25 the arrangements for freight imports and exports to/from the UK are going through major technological and procedural changes. Harbour Shipping forms the backstop through these turbulent times to ensure that importers/exporters and hauliers present correct declarations every time to HMRC so as to ensure smooth and timely freight transit. As a Customs Agent / Account Manager at Harbour Shipping, I’m fortunate to work alongside colleagues with decades of experience in one of the oldest established businesses in the industry. I’m familiar with new customs procedures and new software such as CDS and Descartes. I work with freight agents and importers/exporters to assess and correct, if necessary, their customs declarations, and am proactive in solving problems on a daily basis.
