Grady Saunders is a Assistant Research Scientist at Rochester Institute of Technology. Colleagues describe him as "I have had the pleasure to work with Grady in the same group. His comprehensive understanding of fundamental concepts and how he could draw connections between them to grasp complex scientific problems has always impressed me. One thing that always caught my eyes was that Grady's presentations were often void of text, as he could communicate hid ideas clearly through pictures/media. For his master's thesis, he developed turn-key algorithms simulating corn growth over time which then was introduced as add-ons to RIT digital imaging and remote sensing generation (DIRSIG) software. I believe Grady is a brilliant team worker and an asset to any team." and "I was Grady’s College Bound Chemistry teacher his AP Computer Science teacher. I write many letters of recommendation each year, and in my 10 years of teaching, I can only think of one other recommendation that is as glowing as this one. Grady has both the desire, and the ability, to achieve greatness. He focuses 100% on a task, sticks with it until he completes it no matter what else is going on around him, and produces the highest quality work I have ever seen. In chemistry (a self-paced class), I was amazed at how quickly Grady outpaced the rest of the class. He completed the class months early and easily earned an A. Grady asked to take AP Computer Science but he did not have the prerequisite introductory class nor any prior Java experience. He did know C++ so I allowed him, with reservations, to enroll in the class. We are now at the end of the first semester, and Grady has proven to be the most skilled and dedicated programmer I have in the class. He finishes his work well before the rest of the class and spends the rest of his time working on his computer graphics projects. Grady plans to work in the field of Computer Graphics. Grady has already started his own business where he is paid for creating logos, brochures, and flyers. In his spare time, he works on creating three dimensional computer worlds for computer gaming. I marvel at his creativity and ability. Grady is an excellent all around student, being appointed into our Beta Honorary Society last year – an honor reserved for the best academic students in our school. He has taken, and is taking, AP and Dual Enrollment classes so he can be challenged and also earn college credit. He has attended a college credited precollege summer program from the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida to boost his knowledge in the field. He has won numerous awards, including the Presidential Award for Education Excellence, and has been part of our school system’s gifted program for about 10 years. Grady is also involved with numerous activities outside of the artistic world. He has been our school’s band manager for the past 2 years. He has volunteered his time for many organizations including the Appalachian Service Project where people go help build houses for those in need, the Library, the Food Bank, one of the elementary schools, and the US Environmental Protection Agency. In summary, Grady is mature beyond his years. He is amazingly talented, incredibly driven and focused, and extraordinarily creative. In my ten years of teaching, I can honestly say that Grady is the most mature and focused young man I have ever taught. He has wowed me with his ability, his passion, and his dedication to excellence. I can’t recommend anyone more highly than I recommend Grady. I am honored to have had the opportunity to work with him, and am excited to see what he creates in the next few years."
