Move To Amend Interfaith Caucus
National
The Elimination of Corporate Constitutional Rights and Money as Speech is the single Sine Qua Non that must occur if we are ever to reverse the destructive path we are on where corporations and possessors of great wealth seek to optimize profits with little or no concern for societal and planetary implications. Movetoamend.org (MTA) has been developing this movement since 2010.Starting in June, 2013, a group of MTAers, members of the Unitarian Universalist Faith, recognizing that those corporate actions specifically violate all 7 of our "Principles" got approval to expand MTA activities and reach out to communities of faith and ethical convictions to seek to bring them into the movement. This initiative rests on the theory that, like UUs, if they considered their own beliefs, values, doctrine, or principles, they would quickly discover their faiths similarly are being "disrespected" or violated by many corporate actions.Finding commonality with many others, we began focusing on the common values of "Love thy Neighbor" and "Care for the Poor" as areas where corporate greed is particularly damaging. But the strongest motivator has evolved to be: Climate Change! As "Stewards of Creation" (or "the planet") we have a duty to act to reduce climate change! A constitutional amendment eliminating corporate constitutional rights and money as speech is the single act that is certain to begin the accomplishment of that objective by permitting, without corporate interference, the passage of reasonable laws and regulations that will reduce the tremendously damaging greenhouse gas emissions and the industrial pollution that continue unabated.MTA-IFC has been growing steadily for four years and is well established in a number of faith and Humanist traditions.
