Mark is an independent Environmental and Social Compliance Advisor focussed in the renewable energy sector, and has over 25 years’ experience in the field of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) consultancy and management, including environmental and social impact assessments (ESIA), environmental and social due diligence (ESDD), development of environmental and social management plans (ESMP), site selection and feasibility studies, auditing, environmental planning and permitting, Corporate Sustainability management and reporting, across a broad range of sectors. He has extensive knowledge and experience in undertaking ESDDs on behalf of major development agencies, including EBRD, IFC, ADB, AfDB, OPIC, JBIC, Proparco, FMO, as well as numerous Equator Principles Financial Institutions, focusing on large scale renewable energy (solar, wind and biomass) projects, as well as across a broad range of other sectors, including conventional large scale power (and desalination) plants, infrastructure, water and wastewater, property, and oil & gas. He also has experience with large scale linear infrastructure projects including high voltage transmission lines, and oil and gas transmission infrastructure.He has an excellent understanding of international best practice and major lender environmental and social investment criteria. He has also managed and led numerous ESIAs for major internationally financed power and infrastructure projects globally.Through this experience Mark has acquired a strong familiarity with IFC Performance Standards and EHS Guidelines, EBRD PRs, and the Equator Principles and their implication and application in the development of international projects. He has worked with and on behalf of investors, developers, and utilities to identify environmental and social risks, and works closely to mitigate such risks through design and management measures, as well as identifying practical opportunities to enhance and benefit local communities and the environment.He has international experience working on projects in the Middle East, North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, Central Asia, East-Asia, Europe and Eastern Europe.
