Holding a post graduate degree in Information Technology and graduate degree in engineering, I was most likely to enter the world of software engineering. But back in the day I wanted to explore opportunities in professions apart from software engineering. I started my career as a Management Consultant at KPMG (in India) and I quickly realised that it was my true calling. Understanding processes-seeing how data flows through a system-manual or digital, I had a knack of looking at a system holistically. Just the thing for a person obsessed with organisation. Processes which leads to better organisation of team structure-client management and most importantly clarity of thought. With the skills I picked up I moved on to eCentricHR where I set out -company KPIs-employee KPIs in line with the company goals, -processes for recruitment including employee life cycle. With no unlearning of a prior system, learning and implementing a new one became easier.With experience from both companies I became proficient with operations. CAW Studios, when incorporated, was engineering-centric, with little focus on day-to-day operations and that needed to change because in my opinion, people's experience matters. Employees do not appreciate a delay in receipt of salary, clients do not appreciate receiving invoices with errors and partners do not appreciate delayed payment. I started with taking under my purview general management functions like - hiring and employee retention, legal, partner management, accounts and finance and administrative responsibilities. From a 30 member dev shop CAW Studios has evolved into a structured 100+ employee company, delivering solutions across multiple time zones and organisation played a key role in making it possible.
