My time at the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center (GLBRC) has been marked with fantastic accomplishments and milestones that display my expanding skill set and expertise in many areas of communication. My hard work has led in part to the launch of a fantastic new website for the GLBRC (www.glbrc.org), GLBRC’s first and second annual reports, GLBRC’s launch into the social media landscape, a complete revamp of GLBRC’s education and outreach activities, and multiple Department of Energy reviews.I’m the GLBRC’s primary photographer, graphic and web designer, director of social media efforts and secondary copy editor. On a daily basis I write promotional copy for Twitter and Facebook and evaluate the effectiveness of driving people to the website and other sites with Google Analytics. I design marketing collateral in collaboration with the Director of Communications and compile, copy edit and design presentation materials. I’ve worked directly with GLBRC researchers and leadership to help design presentations, train them on presentation software and media relations, and create new graphics that communicate complex research to other researchers and the general public.I recently achieved my fifteen minutes of fame while covering the Wisconsin budget protest at the capitol. I shot and edited together four videos that went viral and were picked up by Rachel Maddow, the Daily Kos, the Huffington Post, Salon, and Time and received approximately 350,000 views online. My footage has recently appeared in a Chrysler Super Bowl commercial, multiple feature documentaries, and short documentaries on PBS and Al Jazeera.Specialties: Video storytelling, photojournalism, visual communications and visual direction.
