My thesis reveals new information in the fundamental charge carrier processes in TiO2 nanoparticles and Ruthenium based dye sensitizers. - Time-resolved and static X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) measurements at Synchrotron facilities (SLS, ESRF, BessyII)- Synthesis and characterization of nanoparticle samples (XRD, TEM, SEM, XAS, DLS)- Qualitative data analysis and computational simulations - Detailed planning and execution of beam-times at Synchrotrons, including writing and submission of research proposals and experimental reports- Presentation of results at international conferences and publications

- Internship in Proton therapy for Cancer treatment - Implementation of a Monte-Carlo based computational modeling program (Geant4) in order to compare results with existing analytical methods for an improved treatment plan

- Conduction and evaluation of accelerated aging tests on laser diodes to determine long term effects of expected levels of stress within a shorter time to improve quality.
