As Chair and board member of the Juanita Neighborhoods for 10 years, championed issues having strategic value to residents including: - The redevelopment of Juanita Village - The purchase and master plan process for Juanita Beach and McAuliffe Parks - Formation of the 2nd largest unified neighborhood association that includes over 13,000 residents - Partnering with local, business and school leaders in community initiatives including events, service projects and community art."To Whom it May Concern:I have been the City of Kirkland’s Neighborhood Outreach Coordinator for over 11 years. During a major portion of that time, I worked with Marianna Hanefeld as the leader of the Juanita Neighborhood Association. Marianna was a very successful neighborhood leader, adapt at building a sense of community, tackling and solving difficult problems, running effective meetings, and mentoring neighborhood volunteers. During Marianna’s leadership, many improvements were made to the Juanita Neighborhood: crosswalks were improved connecting neighborhoods to parks, walkways were resurfaced to better facilitate people in wheelchairs or pushing strollers, street lights were installed to improve safety, and benches were added to neighborhood parks. City funds were leveraged with a State School Walk Route grant to create a new sidewalk linking the neighborhood to Juanita Village. In addition, Marianna’s neighborhood was one of the first neighborhoods to successfully tap local businesses for donations to create a large community-wide event (Christmas Ship celebration and bonfire).
