During a major portion of that time, I worked with Marianna Hanefeld as the leader of the Juanita Neighborhood Association. Marianna was a very successful neighborhood leader, adapt at building a sense of community, tackling and solving difficult problems, running effective meetings, and mentoring neighborhood volunteers. During Marianna’s leadership, many improvements were made to the Juanita Neighborhood: crosswalks were improved connecting neighborhoods to parks, walkways were resurfaced to better facilitate people in wheelchairs or pushing strollers, street lights were installed to improve safety, and benches were added to neighborhood parks. City funds were leveraged with a State School Walk Route grant to create a new sidewalk linking the neighborhood to Juanita Village. In addition, Marianna’s neighborhood was one of the first neighborhoods to successfully tap local businesses for donations to create a large community-wide event (Christmas Ship celebration and bonfire). The Juanita Neighborhood has benefited significantly by Marianna’s talents and leadership abilities. Sincerely,Kari PageNeighborhood Outreach CoordinatorCity of Kirkland,City Manager's Office
