Freelance Graphic Designer / Photographer
CurrentI have been providing freelance graphic design and professional product photography services to multiple clients through my company, K&M Designs, for over 15 years.Graphic Design;I consider myself to be an expert at using Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat Pro. While I enjoy working on "creative" projects such as new logos, photo manipulation, etc., I truly excel in the layout of documents, brochures, business cards, catalogs, flyers and business forms. Your text and images should blend seamlessly into one concise document to convey your marketing message; that's where I come in. If you need it created from scratch, recreated from hard-copy to allow editing, or anything else (No matter how mundane), please contact me, I can do it for a very competitive rate.Photography;I have been a professional studio photographer since the early 1980's. While I do not run a "studio" (Made that money-pit mistake once, never again), I own all the equipment to take on location, which is my preferred way of offering product or people photography services. The mobile studio is far more convenient for my customers too. Why go to the studio when the studio can come to your place of business?I provide my services in the greater Sacramento, CA area.Contact me via email, martin@kandmdesigns.comor phone, (530) 906-5223.
Graphic Designer / Prepress / Customer Service
Created new designs for business cards, letterheads, envelopes, brochures, catalogs and large display banners based on customer requests and mockups. Created new logos / corporate identities based on the customers' directions.Assisted customers with brainstorming their designs in person, on the phone or by email. Provided them with proofs as the project/s progressed until they gave final approval for production to begin. Recreated artwork that needed updating or modification when digital files were either unavailable or provided in an uneditable format. Typically this would be office or business forms that had previously been scanned from paper originals but required either minimal changes or a complete revision to the layout. Certain projects were simple "patches" over existing scanned or vector artwork, others required the designs recreated completely from the ground up, often including a lot of manual typesetting and formatting.Provided prepress services, checking customer provided artwork for proper formatting, image resolution and color balance to ensure that the printed job would look it's best. Often this would involve adding "fake bleeds" if the customer provided artwork needed to be trimmed to the edge and no bleeds were provided in their file.Because of the limited design software available to so many people, I regularly provided the customers with helpful advice for improving their artwork and making their future projects more "press ready". This included verbal instructions on converting their designs into a press-ready PDF format and directing them to alternative open source software for photograph and bitmap image manipulation (gimp.org), desktop publication (scribus.net) and vector artwork (inkscape.org). All too often the customers have only Microsoft word at their disposal for design work, and they are grateful to discover that there are better free alternatives.

Production Artist, Printer Operator
Responsible for printing large-format signs and banners using two Mimaki printers. Converted customer provided artwork into print-quality PDF documents using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign and CorelDraw. Created new artwork for customers who did not have any yet.

Graphic Artist
