Originally from Thunder Bay, Michael moved to Ottawa to pursue his Honours degree in Social Sciences at the University of Ottawa. After graduating magna cum laude with a specialization in Criminology, he continued his studies at the University of Ottawa where he received his LL.B cum laude in 2010.Following his call to the Bar, Michael practiced with a prominent firm in Ottawa where he carried on a general litigation practice, gaining significant experience in the areas of family law, personal injury and estates law. At present, Michael’s practice areas primarily include family law, construction litigation, insurance and estate law (litigation, planning and administration).Michael has represented clients in the New Brunswick Court of Queen’s Bench Trial and Family Divisions, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Ontario Divisional Court and the Ontario Court of Justice. He has also acted for clients in numerous mediations in both civil and family matters and in private arbitrations pursuant to Ontario’s Arbitration Act. When a matter is not suited to litigation, Michael’s approach is to employ Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) methods including negotiation and mediation to solve issues for his clients in a cost-effective manner. Michael is a member of the Law Society of New Brunswick, Law Society of Ontario and the Canadian Bar Association. He has also been a member of the Advocacy Club since 2012. In 2015 he assisted in teaching the upper-year Estate Litigation course at the University of Ottawa law school and sat on the Family Partnering Committee of Habitat for Humanity (National Capital Region) from 2016 - 2017. He presently sits on council of the Moncton Area Lawyers Association (MALA).
