After 6 months in the Planning Co-ordinator role, in January 2016 the job was converted into Planning Engineer; creating a new position and developing the role into becoming maintenance lead on site.In addition to those responsibilities highlighted in the Planning Co-ordinator position, I now work in closer conjunction with the Operations department to set and achieve the performance objectives of the site. This includes greater input to management of change (MoC), project development and HAZOP reviews and more involvement in department financial obligations, becoming a budget holder for scaffold, insulation and paint services via the term contractor.Line management responsibilities expanded to include the Maintenance Co-ordinator, and furthermore my role now includes responsibility as back-up Pressure Systems Engineer, complying with PSSR & LOLER (not pressure, but part of the role) regulations.Ongoing projects are the upgrade of the site CMMS system and improvements to site planning, with the end goal of a conjoined planning process across maintenance and outages ran almost exclusively through the site CMMS and improvements to maintenance on safety critical equipment.

After a successful plant outage at another pX-operated site I started in July 2015 with pX limited at a combined heat & power plant, a critical steam supplier for a large Nuclear facility in North West England.On a day to day basis the job description was to produce and implement the maintenance plan for all maintenance work on site, organising inputs from all departments and ensuring that the needs of the site, and contractual obligations, were met.Work achieved through both Maximo CMMS and MS Project, working in conjunction with and acting as line manager to the CMMS Administrator to guarantee that the maintenance objectives are input to the CMMS to ensure efficient & effective output. As such, my role included responsibility as the Maximo CMMS ‘super-user’. Alongside the maintenance responsibilities it was also my duty to develop & maintain work plans for several planned unit outages across the year, splitting resource effectively across the two areas. Where additional planning resource was required it was my duty to co-ordinate their work load.

Teesside, North East England

Following 14 months away from industry, I took a position as a preparations engineer & outage scheduler / coordinator with my previous company, working on a major gas production facility in Teesside.Working from a list of work orders as the scope of work, these were also the first statutory out-of-service inspections for the newly modified production process. As preparations engineer the role included risk assessing critical tasks, statutory inspection requirements through co-ordination with site engineering teams and competent body, scoping and meeting with vendors for major tasks, health & safety development within CDM project including provision of rescue teams, design development & approval and materials procurement and production of work packs for 21-day outage.Once this pre-planning was completed, the role developed into outage co-ordinator/scheduler, encompassing plan development, co-ordination with all parties including operations, and approval and updating during the outage. This incorporated leading morning and evening handover meetings and setting objectives for the day, with problem solving duties during each day.In addition to all this, I was the lead for the site mechanical & fabrication contractors (peaking at around 50 men during the outage) organising site establishment and co-ordinating work in conjunction with three area supervisors.The outage was a success, with completion within-time and under-budget and laying out the blue print for future outages on this process.

North East England

Starting in July 2010 and following a short time at the company offices after graduating from university, I took on the position of Mechanical Project Engineer on a major oil & gas production facility in Teesside with emphasis on unit and site shutdown planning and project implementation.The role involved all aspects of project development and management from concept and scope creation to construction & commissioning.Work included, but not limited to, estimating and tendering (submitting proposals, writing documents for tender and contract approvals for vendor work), management and quality check on design, procurement, co-ordination of workshop fabrication and delivery to site, risk assessment lead and work pack development & writing permits, contribution to HAZOP and management of change (MoC), management and co-ordination of large multi-skilled teams and operations-maintenance co-ordination including on-site support, CMMS planning and scheduling and development of project schedules with during- and post-project reporting to the client.Outside of the shutdown scopes, I also took on a number of capital projects, including the site installation of a stainless steel still vessel and a variety of small scale pipework modification projects.
