I am a senior at Ironwood High School attending the MET Professional Academy in the medical strand, seeking new opportunities and adding to my prior knowledge of the medical field. I have spent my time at the MET Professional Academy learning much more than the basic knowledge such being suturing, phlebotomy, and injections. I also trained and gained my First-Aid, CPR and soon EKG certification. During my time at the MET I have gained the professional skills of public speaking and collaboration. At the end of the year I was able to use these skills to work in a group and make a presentation for the Health and Wellness Fair where I shared my groups information with peers, families, and partners. At a young age I knew that I wanted a career in the medical field but was never sure of what. The main reason I want to go into the medical field was because of my mom. She was a nurse who thoroughly enjoined her time and would not trade it for anything. I admired seeing the way she was able to comfort and help out families in troubling times, and I couldn't wait to do the same. Nursing was always a thought however, it didn't catch my eye the same way plastic surgery did. Plastic surgery is focused on reconstructive procedures of patients with conditions of birth disorders and injuries. An individual shouldn't have to suffer being self conscious due to a birth defect or injury, so being able to help reconstruct that image would allow for much more opportunities. As an inspiring future plastic surgeon I hope to spend the majority of my time doing cosmetic procedures but always looking to help someone in need.
