As a member of the Pediatric Sarcoma Team, I cared for children diagnosed with sarcomas and other solid tumors. I helped to select new clinical trials for sarcoma to include in the Hopkins portfolio and participated in the management and monitoring of the active sarcoma clinical trials. I enrolled many of my patients on clinical trials (both late and early phase) to help advance the science and improve therapies for this area of high unmet medical need. On the inpatient service, I led a cross-functional team in providing evidence-based cancer care to children with the whole range of pediatric oncology diagnoses, from leukemia and lymphoma to brain tumors to sarcomas and other solid tumors. I supervised, mentored and educated fellows, residents and medical students, and I worked collaboratively with consultants, trainees, advanced practice providers (nurse practitioners, physician’s assistants), nurses, research nurses and coordinators, pharmacists, care coordinators, and social workers. In the laboratory, my research focused on translational pediatric oncology, with the overall goal of developing novel therapeutics for poor-prognosis tumors. I used advanced metabolomic and proteomic techniques to investigate the adaptive changes and resistance mechanisms resulting from targeted inhibition of oncogenic signaling pathways and cancer metabolism in cellular and mouse models of pediatric solid tumors, including brain tumors, neuroblastoma and sarcomas.

As chief fellow, I had leadership responsibilities in program administration, provision of academic support for clinical fellows, and organization of fellowship educational programming. I served as a liaison between fellows and faculty at both Johns Hopkins and the National Cancer institute, and as a liaison between the pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship program and the Johns Hopkins Pediatrics Residency Program.
