Hi, my name is Micah (my-kuh)…sometimes people aren't sure how to pronounce it. When I was a little girl I wanted to be an actress and a writer. Get on the New York Times Best Seller List by day, perform on Broadway by night (okay and do a few Sunday matinees). A girl can dream. I had a stage in my room at 3 years old where I put on shows every night. It was no surprise to anyone in my family when I went to college for acting. Shortly after I learned how to write, I started making books – pages filled with adventure and romance in dangerous and magical realms. During my adolescent life, that love for writing morphed into a way for me to share real stories that helped people, which led me to start writing novels – one of which sold over 6,000 copies before I reached the age of 22. My heart has always been torn between the two: acting and writing. Coincidentally, the thing that I love about acting, theatre, writing, and the arts, in general, is being able to tell a story and connect with people. At my core, I am a storyteller. In what I thought was just a "college job", I stumbled upon this thing that I had always heard about but had never really seen in action: "marketing" or how I've come to know it: persuasive storytelling for grown-ups. I became obsessed with learning about marketing. Listening to every podcast possible. Devouring every book. I couldn't get enough it. After graduating with my BFA in Acting, I went back to school and got my masters in Integrated Communications Marketing so that I could be closer to becoming an expert at the craft. The thing about marketing is you can never be a true expert because so often new trends and technologies are coming out.As a marketer, I am able to take the skills of a Meisner-trained actor (which is all about listening and responding to emotion), the skills of a writer, the knowledge of brand equity management, the ability to conduct valuable marketing research and analysis, and the curiosity of an artist and apply them to my projects. Or...if you just want the cookie-cutter professional gist of it:Experienced Social Media and Digital Marketing Professional with a demonstrated history of working in the real estate industry. Skilled in Social Media Content Creation, Graphic Design, Marketing, Event Planning, Reputation Management, SEO, Creative Branding, Copy Writing and Community Engagement. But as you can hopefully tell, I'm much more than that. I'd love to hear your story too. Drop a line and let's connect.

Digital Marketing ManagerOrange Fish Marketing, Llc Oct 2020 - Jan 2021Tampa, Florida, UsWhen the pandemic hit, marketing was the first thing to go at my previous employer Nelson Partners. I had never experienced being laid off before but every story has to have a conflict, right? I mean who can control the monetary impact of a global pandemic? What I did learn though is that networking and relationships matter. I had so many of my teammates at NP who also got laid off referring me to other openings and that's how I found Orange Fish - a marketing agency that happened to have clients in the student housing sector. At Orange Fish, I was responsible for creating and executing social media strategy to foster growth and engagement for 11 different accounts for a new student housing company called Student Quarters. This included creating branded property filters, hashtag research, and ensuring that all of the properties' social media stayed up to date with the latest trends. I also helped manage their reputation management, and outreach, and dipped my toe into website setup. In those 4 months, Student Quarters saw the work that I was doing for them at Orange Fish and decided to make me a permanent part of their team starting in February 2021. -
Social Media And Marketing DirectorNelson Partners Student Housing Feb 2020 - Sep 2020San Clemente, California, UsHard work does pay off. I worked tirelessly to show up for my community and the people on our leadership team noticed that and promoted me so that I could impact all properties rather than just mine with strategic marketing. I managed 24 different properties' social media strategies, integrated Influencer Marketing into the company's marketing kit, developed monthly marketing plans to help secure resident retention and high-performing leasing efforts and fulfilled daily graphic requests (on average 720 graphic creations per month). Additional tasks included: creating text and email marketing campaigns, outreach, hosting social media training, and designing and ordering promotional material. -
Leasing And Marketing ManagerNelson Partners Student Housing Oct 2018 - Feb 2020San Clemente, California, UsHere I grew again. A new property, a new challenge, and a job that put equal responsibility of me handling leasing and marketing for the property - Mountain Valley Apartments. I liked that this role was a 50/50 split of sales and marketing whereas my previous position was about an 80/20. In this role, I was in charge of planning and executing resident events, building relationships with local businesses and university athletic departments and organizations through community outreach, planning and executing the social media promotion, planning housing fairs (themes, giveaways, food, and staffing), and all other things marketing related to the community. Occasionally I dressed up in a dalmatian costume to pass out flyers on campus about our pet-friendly community. You'd be surprised how many students will stop & take pictures with you when you're wearing a dalmatian costume. The other half of this position was being responsible for all things leasing. Which meant, managing all leases for currently leased, and pre-leased tenants, collecting rent, assigning housing placement, and roommate matching for the next leasing term as well as handling staffing and scheduling for our office team. Here I also inspired the team with ways to achieve goals through monthly leasing and review competitions. -
Leasing ManagerCoastal Ridge Real Estate Sep 2017 - Sep 2018Columbus, Oh, UsManaging myself: a piece of cake. I'm organized, and overly communicative. I have a degree in Acting for crying out loud so monologuing is very common. Managing a team, however, was something new to me. I worried about whether I would be able to rally people as a leader to help achieve monthly leasing goals. Plus I had The Domain's brand to think about too: how our social media posts were going to perform the best, what ways I could get people leave us a review and mention a team member by name, what our monthly resident events and campaigns would be, and making sure all of that stayed within in budget. Did I mention I was a student during all of this? I came in at 7 AM worked until my classes started at 12 PM and then came back to work after classes got out at 6 PM. I found my way, though. I loved being in a position to inspire people. My work in marketing at the property even led me to pick up a minor in Strategic Social Media. All of that paid off when our 912-bed community achieved 100% pre-leased during my time as a leasing manager at the property. -
Leasing ConsultantCoastal Ridge Real Estate May 2017 - Sep 2017Columbus, Oh, UsThis is where I got my feet wet in the world of student housing. I was working at Ulta Beauty in college as a sales associate when someone approached me about working at the apartment complex I lived it. It seemed fun enough, a little bump in pay, a rent discount, and I could take my lunch breaks in my apartment with my cat. Sure! Why not? Here I learned the art of communication, how to give a tour that sparks excitement, how to follow up in an effective but not annoying way, how to be present and connect with prospects, how to listen and respond to objections, to pay attention to small details (because one missing signature meant having to call and ask someone to come back to the office to sign another piece of paperwork), and provide excellent customer service to residents. This was my crash source in Sales 101 - but my favorite part of sales was the marketing aspect: how the community showed up on social media, what the flyers looked like, and what the Google rating was, and most importantly how I could better it, and so I went to work on improving that alongside hitting my leasing goals. Which led to a promotion. -
Social Media CoordinatorWest Virginia University Jan 2018 - May 2018Morgantown, West Virginia, UsMy university opened up an internship for managing the Theatre program's social media page on Instagram and Facebook. I was excited to jump in and help promote the season's shows on social media for a semester.
