This is time saver not only for the media but Field Supervisors as well. In June 2014 Captain Alanis completed the FBI National Academy as a member of the 255th Session.In January 2015 Captain Alanis was promoted to the rank of Commander and reassigned to the Administration Bureau.

In October 2008, Officer Alanis was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and transferred to the Patrol Division. Lieutenant Alanis was assigned a Field Supervisor and served in all four districts of the city. While assigned to the Charlie District auto burglaries continued to be one of the leading crimes in the district. Lt. Alanis worked with the Auto Theft Division to reinstitute the Lock, Take and Hide program and assisted in distributing signs throughout the shopping areas of town. In 2010 Lt. Alanis was transferred to the Administration Division's Public Information Office. He was tasked with implementing social media policies and procedures while launching the department's crime blog. Within six months the program was underway. Today the program continues to be ranked amongst the top 50 Law Enforcement Social Media programs in the nation. In the Fall of 2010 Lt. Alanis returned to the Patrol Division as a Field Supervisor. In April 2012 Lt. Alanis was transferred to the Investigations Bureau to supervise the Special Assignments section. The Special Assignments section included the Financial Crimes Division, White Collar Crimes Division, Graffiti Task Force and the police department portion of the US Marshals Task Force. In December 2012 Lt. Alanis was promoted to the rank of Captain and reassigned to the Operations Division - Uniform Patrol as a District Captain.

In 1998 Mr. Alanis moved to the Coastal Bend and began working for the Corpus Christi Police Department. After graduating from the 56th Police Academy, he was assigned to the Patrol Division where he worked in the Delta (Downtown), Adam (Northwest) Districts along with the Traffic Safety Division as a Crash Investigator and a Field Training Officer. In 2004, while assigned to the Community Relations Division, Officer Alanis expanded the Campus Crime Stoppers program to include every school in Nueces County. He was awarded the Crime Stoppers "Coordinator of the Year" award from the Governor's office for his efforts. In 2007 Sr. Officer Alanis was instrumental in forming a campaign to combat guns in the hands of gang members. The program titled "Save Our Streets" was a collaboration of the Corpus Christi Police Department and Project Safe Neighborhoods. Within the first two months 15 arrest and 25 weapons were seized. The success of the program led to Officer Alanis being invited as a quest speaker at the national Project Neighborhood Conference in Atlanta, Ga. the very same year. In 2008 Officer Alanis was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Division and served in the Auto Theft Bureau. In October 2008, Officer Alanis was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and transferred to the Patrol Division.
