As a data scientist with a master's degree in Analytics and Data Science, I build machine learning models and tell stories through data that enable smarter and data driven decisions that impact a business' bottom line. I systematically move from ideation, prototyping and eventually production through scientific application of data science tools and techniques. As a certified Scrum Master, I work with my team to deliver value to my company. To first understand the problem and explore the process, I collaborate with business SMEs and data engineers to acquire the right data to tackle the most important questions. Through meticulous application of best practices and attention to detail, I transform the data into meaningful features to be consumed by a machine learning model. Through iteration of different types of models for the specific domains I have tackled, I have experience using ensemble models like Random Forest and XGBoost which have shown the best performance on tabular data. I tune the performance through hyper-parametric optimization and to explain the reasoning behind an algorithm's to business stakeholders, I establish model interpretability and data visualizations. Central to my data science toolkit are programming languages, Python, R and SQL, Pyspark & AWS for big data, and data visualization softwares like Tableau. I also explore new and emerging technologies in the domain of artificial intelligence and machine learning.I also drive data science projects in an agile manner to meet an organization’s needs. I'm self driven and a thriver in fast paced, collaborative environments. I am active within the data science community in the greater LA area.Core Competencies: Big Data | Machine Learning | Spark | Statistical Data Modeling | Data Analytics | Data VisualizationIn my down time, I play board games, soccer and make wine, liqueurs and cocktail bitters.

Data ScientistCurrency Jul 2018 - Dec 2020Scottsdale, Az, UsAs Currency's only data scientist, my responsibilities encompassed developing innovative data science solutions to tackle a range of problems including predicting creditworthiness, default and fraud to drive business value and generating value through data driven solutionsMachine Learning• Deliver a Proof of Concept (quoted externally at $1 + million) to determine creditworthiness using machine learning models in-house using open source software• 50 + auto declined loan applications approved in the span of two months through the assistance of interpretable machine learning models, a diagnostic for Currency's proprietary underwriting engine• Oversaw a 10 - 30 point improvement across various performance metrics (recall, F-1 score, AUC) and for each class of model from initial baseline through better feature engineering, cleansing and hyper parametric optimizationData Science Platform Stability• Build ETL pipelines that converted relational and non-relational raw data into cleansed tabular data and engineered features as input for the ML models• Improve unit test coverage of the data science API platform by 30%Docker and BI• Build a docker image from a base Python alpine image to support Currency's containerized ML platform that exposed a Flask (Python) REST API - a scoring micro-service Data Science Literacy • Evaluate Proof of Concepts across data science platforms, BI Tools, synthetic and payments fraud detection solutions and advise the CTO on their efficacy• Fostered understanding of Data Science through conducting brown bags on the evolution and mechanics of ensemble machine learning models and interpretable machine learning (unboxing the xgboost 'black box') -
Advanced Analytics PracticumRobert Wood Johnson University Hospital Feb 2018 - May 2018New Brunswick, Nj, UsPredicted hospital readmissions (critical care) for the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston (MIMIC III Dataset)Extracted, cleaned and transformed the dataset, used feature engineering based on SME advice and recent literature, performed statistical analyses and made predictions using machine learning algorithms such as penalized logistic regression and random forest. Our team's results improved dramatically with new features and employing different algorithms to within 2% of that of researchers in the fields who tackled the same problem with different datasets using Area under the ROC curve as a metric. -
