Working independently has enabled me to be highly adaptive. On smaller projects, I work intensively with individual organizations and leaders; on larger ones, or when specialized expertise is needed, I put together and manage a team.My client organizations work in a variety of fields, including: legal advocacy, economic development, health and social services, youth development, and the arts, with budgets generally between $1 and $20 million.Sample clients include: • East Bay Agency for Children ($11M organization, strategic planning and follow-up support)• Chinatown Community Development Center ($20 M organization; strategic planning, systems redesign, governance)• Hawai’i Community Foundation ($15M annual grants: strategic planning)• Lambda Legal ($20M legal advocacy organization for LGBT community: strategic planning)• San Diego Museum of Arts ($10M anchor arts organization in San Diego: vision renewal, plans for major repositioning and facilities improvements)

Senior manager responsible for substantial business development and high level of delivery of consulting services. CompassPoint Nonprofit Services, 1990 – 2004. (concurrently served as Associate Director 1994-2004) Staff of 35. Budget of $5 million. Managed full service management consulting practice with individual nonprofits as well as foundation and government sponsored capacity building initiatives. Managed group of 12 staff consultants and upwards of 30 affiliate consultants serving over 300 organizations each year. The consulting practice grew from less than $100,000 in revenue in 1990 to $3.0 million in revenue by 2003. Consulted individually in areas of strategic and business planning, governance, and organizational development. Designed and led 14 capacity building initiatives sponsored by both foundation and government funders.

Worked for two and a half years as a community organizer at this grassroots community organizing group before becoming the Executive Director. The organization worked on issues like affordable housing creation and preservation and neighborhood safety as well as policy issues such as winning a policy that would require new office building projects to contribute to neighborhood housing and betterment.
