When higher ranking military personnel decide on operational or administrative manners, the gunnery sergeant must relay this information to the lower ranking marines in his company. Additionally, the gunnery sergeant must report any concerns or issues that develop in his company to higher ranking military officials.Enforce Policy and Provide Aid and ResourcesCompany gunnery sergeants are responsible for enforcing rules and policies. They must ensure that the marines in the company follow protocol and maintain military decorum. This means the gunnery sergeants must ensure that uniforms are worn appropriately and that rooms are kept clean as well as enforcing other rules. Any reports required by the company (fitness reports, academic reports, or other types) must be submitted to the gunnery sergeant for review. The gunnery sergeant must supervise the physical health of the marines and ensure that the marines are properly instructed on matters involving personal fitness, health, and even financial decision making. The gunnery sergeant must contact appropriate agencies (such as health professionals) or provide resources to the marines individually so that they can get the help they need.
