As the CEO of MedAccess, I lead an ambitious new business that aims to make medical supplies more widely available and affordable, especially in Africa and South Asia. With an initial investment of $200 million from British International Investment, we use innovative finance mechanisms to reduce the business risks associated with supplying medicines, and collaborate closely with governments and development agencies to increase market efficiency and access. I have over 30 years of experience working in business, government, law, academia, and nonprofits, with a focus on international development and global health. I am passionate about finding creative solutions to complex challenges, building strong organizations, and partnering with diverse stakeholders. I have held senior positions in the UK government, including as the Prime Minister's Special Envoy for UN Development Goals and the Director General for Policy and Global Programmes at the Department for International Development. Prior to joining the government, I was a co-founder and COO of Bazian Ltd., a company providing statistical products for evidence-based medicine, now part of the Economist Group. For 15 years I worked as a legal consultant with barrister chambers and City of London law firms, and was also Director of Studies at the British Institute of International and Comparative Law. My academic career included teaching positions in law at the London School of Economics and SOAS, University of London.
