As a board-certified internist and nephrologist, I’ve spent the past 15 years witnessing firsthand how devastating and burdensome dialysis can be for patients, their families, and healthcare providers. I have focused the majority of my clinical research on the expansion and improvement of home dialysis for patients with renal disease. I believe the time has come to reimagine how we treat those suffering from end-stage kidney disease, to improve outcomes and the quality of life for patients and their families. As Chief Medical Officer for Outset Medical, I have the unique opportunity to support innovative paths forward in revolutionizing dialysis treatment. Before joining the Outset team, I was a medical director for DaVita and U.S. Renal Care. I currently serve as Medical Director of the Acute Dialysis program at Texas Health Resources Harris Fort Worth Hospital. It’s been during this time in clinical practice that I gained an intimate understanding of how renal disease can impact the day-to-day quality of life. I also serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Network of Texas.
