I completed my BSc in Biology with Honours and a focus in Ecology, Evolution and Conservation at Simon Fraser University. I am passionate about natural history and how our society interacts with the environment. The projects I worked on in my undergraduate focussed on anthropogenic impacts on aquatic ecosystems and species, including habitats used by juvenile salmonids and species like the provincially Blue listed Coastal Tailed frog. My volunteer experience and honours thesis focussed on ornithology and I have spent four years monitoring migrating passerines at a station in Vancouver, BC. I am currently studying the food web ecology of juvenile salmon and forage fish in the Skeena estuary for my Master's research.
Listed skills include Bird Banding, Juvenile Fish Identification, Invasive Species, Field Work, and 10 others.

A Masters student's project studying the effects of nutrients left by spawning salmon on the territory structure and breeding success of Pacific Wrens.I held the banding sub-permit that allowed us to use mist-nets and colour band. Other duties included spot-mapping, nest searching, behavioural observations, and vegetation surveys.
I completed a literature review on the impacts of Tar Sands development on the marine environment for a multi-university collaboration. My duties involved downloading and categorizing papers with regards to their relevance and trophic level and graphically representing their results.
North And East Harrison Lake Watersheds
A VPR USRA project on possible impacts of Run of River dams on Coastal Tailed frogs with a focus on changes in stage and discharge dynamics. I lead the design of an experimental arena that we used to test the ability of Tailed frog tadpole's to avoid stranding from flow ramping that occurs in RoR systems.Field work included multi-day camping trips in remote locations and working in fast flowing streams, taking stream measurements, and surveying for tadpoles.
Lower Fraser River
An NSERC USRA funded project on severed connectivity in Lower Fraser River tributaries, fish communities and changes in water quality. In a collaboration with a peer, I helped design and implement a thorough investigation into the water quality of unimpeded and disconnected streams in agriculturally dominated landscapes.Field work included day trips to streams to catch fish with minnow traps and a seine nets, identifying and processing fish, and taking water quality measurements.Publication:Gordon, J., Arbeider, M., Scott, D., Wilson, S. M., & Moore, J. W. 2015. When the Tides Don’t Turn: Floodgates and Hypoxic Zones in the Lower Fraser River, British Columbia, Canada. Estuaries and Coasts, 1-8.
Ubc Botanical Gardens
My duties included conducting canopy walkway tours about plant identification, natural history, indigenous uses and promoting eco-tourism to large and small groups of all ages.

Thesis: Juvenile salmon use of estuaries: investigating food web ecology, growth, and residency
My honours' project focused on the survivorship of the Glaucous-winged Gull. I used the program MARK to analyze adult and juvenile.
