Supporting the outpatient infusion center, this role focuses on obtaining prior authorizations for infusion/injectable treatments done at the hospital, primarily for chemotherapy treatment, but also for high-dollar infusions for other specialties (gastroenterology, pulmonary, rheumatology, etc.) This requires working with a variety of commercial and Medicaid insurance plans, using fax, phone and web portal tools to initiate prior authorizations and manage them to completion. It is necessary to research patient charts to answer clinical questions and supply supporting documentation such as office notes, labs, imaging and pathology. Additional responsibilities in this role involved obtaining prior authorizations for imaging (CT, MRI, PET scans), prescription drugs, complex laboratory tests and pathology. Lastly, researching denied claims and writing/submitting appeals to maximize hospital revenue has also been a key part of this role.
