Roles;• Initiate yam germplasm from greenhouse and field to in vitro• Undertake in vitro mass propagation of yam plantlets• Acclimatize and oversee post flask management of matured sub cultured plantlets• Spearhead the management of clonal material for breeder and foundation seed production• Collaborate in the production of 40,000 seed and ware yam tubers in one growing season• Design, engineer and implement aeroponics and hydroponics systems for yam seedling production• Determine and formulate suitable nutrient constitution protocols for yam clonal material establishment• Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Working Instructions for aeroponics, hydroponics, greenhouse and field operations• Collect and analyze data for laboratory, greenhouse and field trials• Research, prepare and deliver technical reports for presentations and publications• Provide professional consultancy for tissue culture generated yam material and rapid propagation techniques• Provide technical backstopping, train and mentor staff of commercial seed companies in seed yam production technologies• Plan and facilitate sample collection for yam virus indexing activities• Assist in DNA extraction, PCR and gel electrophoresis
