About Michael Austin

Michael Austin, Ph.D. currently serves as Senior Lecturer of Music & Sound and Programme Leader - Music Production at Edge Hill University in Ormskirk, England. He previously served as Founding Director of the School of Music and Associate Professor of Music at Louisiana Tech University where he taught courses in music technology, audio production, and popular music history and analysis. He holds a B.M. in Composition from the University of Texas at San Antonio, an M.M. in Music Theory from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Dallas in Aesthetic Studies (now offered as a Ph.D. in Arts and Technology). Prior to serving at Louisiana Tech, Dr. Austin was Associate Professor of Media, Journalism, and Film at Howard University in Washington, D.C. where he also served as Director of the Interdisciplinary Studies Program in the Cathy Hughes School of Communications. He has also taught music theory, music history, music industry studies, and audio production courses at Missouri Western State University, Collin College, and UT-Dallas.
