Responsible for handling all legal, human resources and compliance matters for Marine Repair Services Container Maintenance Corporation. MRS-CMC provides an array of customer programs including Depot Services, Equipment Sales, Trucking, Refrigerated Services, and Maintenance and Repair with the nation’s largest M&R footprint. MRS-CMC is heavily invested in both Marine and Rail sectors with operations in both types.

Represented corporate and individual clients on litigation as well as on antitrust, compliance, corporate, employment, maritime and transportation related matters.

Responsible for managing all legal matters for Ports America, the largest terminal operator and stevedore in the United States, operating in more than 42 ports and 80 locations on the east, gulf, and west coasts.

As the initial and sole in-house attorney, responsible for any and all Legal, Human Resources and Compliance matters for TOTE, Inc. and its subsidiaries. The subsidiaries, engaged in ocean transportation, logistics, and ship management, maintained offices in Anchorage, Alaska: Jacksonville, Florida: Princeton, New Jersey: San Juan, Puerto Rico: St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands: and Tacoma and Federal Way, Washington. Responsible for handling all of the legal aspects of the EL FARO tragedy. All 33 lives were lost at sea when our crew and vessel EL FARO encountered Hurricane Joaquin on October 1, 2015. This was the worst U.S. maritime shipping disaster in over 30 years. The NTSB and USCG investigations entailed testimony by over 75 witnesses during the 6 weeks of the United States Coast Guard Marine Board of Investigation hearing. After 22 months, all 33 fatality lawsuits and all of the cargo claims (391 containers and 294 vehicles were carried on that voyage) have been settled.Appointed as the first Chief Ethics Officer and created the Compliance program at TOTE, Inc. and its subsidiaries. TOTE, Inc. was selected as one of 2018 World’s Most Ethical Companies by the Ethisphere Institute. Founded Saltchuk University with 4 HR team members.On April 18, 2015 TOTE launched, at the NASSCO shipyard in San Diego, California, the world’s most environmentally friendly and 1st liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered ocean containership. NYK Group Americas Inc. (NGA) is the North American subsidiary of NYK Line, one of the world’s largest ocean shipping, logistics, air cargo and transportation companies. NYK Line is publicly traded in Japan.-Started the NGA Office of the General Counsel and was responsible for all legal matters for NGA group companies. -Appointed as the first NGA Chief Compliance Officer. Designed and implemented the NGA Compliance Program. Created the NGA Code of Ethics. NYK was selected as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies by Ethisphere for four consecutive years, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.-Established the first NGA Compliance Hotline number to be serviced by a third party. Due to its success in North America, the NGA Compliance Hotline spread to NYK companies in Latin America and Asia.-Created, designed, and implemented a team approach for the NGA Insurance Project resulting in lower costs and increased coverage for all NGA companies with net premium savings of over $1.2 million dollars on an annual basis.-Instituted Legal and Compliance Training for all employees. Created Legal E-learning programs to supplement in-person legal training.

NYK Line (North America) Inc. (NYKNA) is the ocean Liner and RORO subsidiary of NGA.-As the initial and sole in-house attorney for 14 years, responsible for any and all legal matters including but not limited to antitrust, contracts, e-commerce agreements, employment and labor law, government regulatory matters, insurance, intellectual property, joint ventures, lease negotiations, licensing, mergers and acquisitions, subsidiary issues and as well as supervising litigation handled by outside counsel-Also served as Director of Human Resources and was responsible for all aspects of Human Resources nationwide. Revised Employee Handbook and Company Policies. -Was responsible for Administration and General Affairs and the budget for all offices and supervision of remote staff as well as coordination of expatriate relocation. -Responsible for Liner and RORO Claims Team. Established metrics to identify trends and institute loss prevention programs.-Conducted Legal and Compliance training sessions at NYK offices throughout the US and in Tokyo, Japan: Beijing, China: London, England: Buenos Aires, Argentina: Sao Paulo, Brazil: Santiago, Chile: and Montevideo, Uruguay.-Attended all meetings of Board of Directors of NYK Line (North America) Inc.-Started in 1995 as an Assistant Manager in Administration.

Represented select corporate and individual clients as attorney, consultant and project manager for corporate, commercial, real estate and related legal matters. This included handling complex contractual transactions as well as litigation in federal, state and municipal courts. Advised clients on all aspects of federal, state and local regulations. Prepared recommendations and strategies for corporate executives including prevention of legal disputes. Merged firms and established comprehensive policies and procedures for small and large businesses. Practice also included tax appeals, estate planning and trust administration.

Represented this large New Jersey (then among top 25) firm’s diversified corporate and individual clients in a broad spectrum of activities including regulatory matters. Responsible for all aspects of commercial real estate development involving environmental, contract, leasing and zoning issues for projects from planning and construction stages through occupancy. Represented Hartz Mountain Industries Inc. in their developments in Secaucus, Jersey City and Weehawken, New Jersey. Retained by management in labor disputes and strikes. Successful condemnation jury trial.

Responsibilities in this general practice firm included servicing clients in civil litigation matters in trial and appellate courts. Duties entailed motion practice, trials, appeals, research and drafting legal instruments with particular emphasis in banking, bankruptcy, corporations, foreclosures, real estate and tax law. Represented Stevens Institute of Technology on a variety of higher education issues.

Served as volunteer teacher on this South Pacific island. Appointed English Department Chairperson as well as math and social studies teacher, yearbook advisor and football coach. (Volunteer pay was $50.00 per month plus room and board.)
