Providing environmental management technical expertise, support and guidance to the whole Electricity Transmission business including supporting the Asset Management, Operational & Construction functions.Responsible for the ISO 14001 certification process, developing environmental policy and strategy and providing expert advice. Maintain and drive Environmental standards and services for ET which deliver legislative compliance and promote continuous improvement to our environment, maintaining high standards and demonstrating leading performance in this space. Motivate and energise people across the business to take full accountability for Environmental leadership in their part of the business.

My role is to provide dedicated and tailored SHS support and advice to the Gas Transmission (GT) Executive and Senior Leadership teams. Along with safety, wellbeing and health advice, I am responsible for ensuring the UK’s SHE objectives and targets are identified and embedded within GT business plans, using corporate data and science based arguments to challenge leadership priorities and identifying opportunities to deliver SHE performance improvements.

My role as Senior Environmental Operations Advisor is responsible for the strategic direction and operational delivery of National Grid’s environmental performance. Achieving this through proactive engagement across all levels of the business, coaching and guiding key stakeholders to achieve their business objectives by adopting and embedding environmental best practice.

National Grid operates and maintains the Gas and Electricity Transmission network and Gas Distribution network for the UK as well as undertaking large scale utility construction projects upgrading the UK transmission network. Due to my extensive experience of working in an operational/field capacity I was asked to join a Visible Safety Leadership project looking at developing a positive safety culture across the business. The project team was tasked with developing a one day interactive workshop, a 90 day supporting ‘embedding’ programme and delivery. Working on the project has refreshed and further developed my previous knowledge of Health and Safety and given me an extremely solid understanding of how to take an organisation from a reactive safety position to a proactive, mature culture, whereby truly understanding why incidents occur and holding effective safety discussions rather than simply hazard spotting becomes the norm.

Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions seconded to the Electricity Alliance East a five year plus alliance between Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions and National Grid.
