Lotus Resources Limited (ASX: LOT; OTCQB: LTSRF) is an Australian Stock Exchange listed uranium development company headquartered in Perth, Australia. The Company’s focus is on the restart of the Kayelekera uranium mine in Malawi, Africa. Lotus owns an 85% equity interest in Kayelekera with the remaining 15% held by the Malawi government.The Project historically produced ~11Mlbs uranium oxide (U3O8 equivalent) over five-year between 2009-2014, before closing to preserve the asset longevity due to a sustained low uranium price. Kayelekera’s current Mineral Resource Estimate is 37.5Mlb of U3O8 at 630 parts per million (ppm).In October 2020, Lotus released a Restart Scoping Study indicating that recommissioning of the Kayelekera plant would cost ∼US$50 million. The Company is currently completing a Definitive Feasibility Study that will be completed by mid-2022 with a decision to mine thereafter.Kayelekera has the potential to become one of the first uranium operations to come back online to meet an impending supply shortfall in uranium. The restart timeline aligns with industry predictions of a market under-supply of approximately 30Mlbs uranium in 2024.Nuclear energy is the only reliable base-load energy source with zero-carbon emissions. With the growing global targets for reduced CO2 emissions, nuclear energy will continue to play a key role in decarbonisation of global power generation.The Company’s target is to become a leader in Malawi regarding ESG performance as it continues to advance the development of the Kayelekera Project. Panoramic, at time of employment, operated its 100% owned Savannah underground nickel sulphide mine and processing plant, located in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia. The Savannah Nickel Project is a significant Australian sulphide orebody with an initial 8.3 year mine life and total Resource of 218,300 tonnes nickel, 99,100 tonnes copper and 14,900 tonnes cobalt. The Company also owned other projects including a 51% stake in Horizon Gold Limited (which was managed by Panoramic) and the Panton PGM Project.

Gascoyne Resources Ltd, at the time of employment, was a gold exploration and development company and had recently developed the Dalgaranga Gold Project targeting production of ~100,000 ounces pa for ~6 years from 2.5Mtpa throughput. The Company also owned the Glenburgh Gold Project (with a JORC compliant resource of over 1,000,000 ounces) and Egerton Gold Project (a historic goldfield within trucking distance of Glenburgh).

Alkane, at the time of my employment, was a multi-commodity resource company focussed in the Central West region of NSW, Australia. The Company transitioned from junior explorer to operator with construction of the Tomingley Gold Operation, a mid-sized operation (production ~70,000oz pa and material movements of ~9M bcm pa) in central New South Wales during 2013. Commissioning of the 1mtpa plant was completed in mid-2014. Construction was completed on time and within budget. Alkane was also developing the Dubbo Project, a large polymetallic orebody of zirconium, rare earths, hafnium, tantalum and niobium. Funding requirements of ~A$1.3BN for construction of the 1mtpa processing facility. The group had an annual turnover from gold operations of $120 million and employed around 170 people across several locations in Australia.
