To further that experience during the summer months working in a limestone (white walled) quarry was like being on another planet with the same remote feeling due to the vast landscapes and film like explosions.While I was erecting a technical piece of scaffolding that was cantilevering out 60 foot above plant I got a call "Hi pal fancy hanging your spanners up and becoming an inspector?"

I went from carrying bags of potatoes in a warehouse to carrying and transporting scaffold tubes and beams a long distance for a friend on a construction project.The level of life experience gained from my time scaffolding is immeasurable, I took great pleasure in being a key member of the team to scaffold the dome on the Trafford Centre. Apparently I was filmed and shown on the news (which I never saw!) secureing loose materials at high points on the steelwork during high winds.At GKN the scaffolding was truly specialist and I worked on some massive projects including work on power and utility plants. Another challenge arisen during this period of employment and that was to provide emergency structural supports and access scaffolds. these were required following the 1996 Manchester bomb and major re-development projects.That was it I was hooked on scaffolding!!!!!! -
