After earning my Ph.D. in May 2020 I began Postdoctoral research exploring phage endolysins as an antibiotic alternative in commercial poultry production. Our team performed in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo studies to measure the anti-Clostridial activity of a proprietary phage endolysin developed by USDA. Using my expertise in poultry research and broiler gut health, my primary responsibilities included scheduling and overseeing experiments, developing protocols and methods, animal husbandry, sample collection, microbiological analysis, statistical analysis, writing reports and publications, and disseminating results to collaborators. Our team performed over 25 experiments, confirming the efficacy of the phage endolysin against Clostridium perfringens in broiler gut contents. Since 2020 we have published and presented three abstracts at scientific forums, and are currently working toward submitting three articles for peer review in 2023.

I joined AHPharma in 2014 to provide Information Technology (IT) and 3D Printing expertise to support business development efforts. Through collaboration with expert consultants, we developed impactful products for the agriculture industry earning patents, trademarks, and USDA tech transfers with the help of outside counsel. Leveraging my IT experience, I designed and managed the company website, an e-commerce system to sell our products online, and streamlined internal processes like running payroll. In 2017 I assumed an additional role as the office manager and go-to problem solver, delegating tasks to our staff of up to 19 employees. In the Fall of 2017, I began attending classes at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore while maintaining a full-time work schedule. After three years of classes and hands-on research, I earned my Ph.D. in Food & Agriculture Science in May 2020 and began to shift my focus toward animal research. Our team conducted publicly and privately funded research like studying the tolerance of broiler chickens to a butyrate supplement, and converting chicken manure to bio char and energy using a pyrolysis system. From 2020-2022, I commonly coordinated multiple research studies simultaneously, designing and managing in-house, grant-funded, and privately funded contract research. As Chairman of the Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee, I was responsible for maintaining standard operating procedures, reviewing protocols to ensure that animal welfare requirements were met, and training farm technicians on the use of approved methods. As the final step in our research process, I performed statistical analysis (Excel, SAS, and R) to prepare reports for peer-reviewed publications and presentations at scientific forums.
