About Michael Barry, Cae

I’m passionate about building healthy nonprofits that improve health and wellness. For the first time in modern history, children born today may have a shorter lifespan than their parents. Medical societies and public health organizations are uniquely positioned to address this societal health problem. But first they must remain relevant to their stakeholders. In an age of polarized politics, changing employment for physicians, and disengaged members, there are seismic challenges for these nonprofit boards to surmount. That’s where I come in.MY APPROACH:♦ Steward leadership. As a board partner, my job is to execute on priorities and inspire staff to catch the vision.♦ Building strong teams. Hiring smart, dedicated people , and creating a space where they can flourish, is key to an organization’s success. ♦ Leading by results. Setting targets, providing guidance, and giving staff the room to succeed or “fail forward,” allows their creativity to shine.♦ Modeling the way. Small staff organizations are all-hands-on-deck operations. It’s about “us,” not any one “me.” We should celebrate our wins and learn from our losses. Together.MY LEADERSHIP TOOLS:✔ STRATEGIC VISIONING. I believe in flexible planning. We need a structured framework that can adapt fluidly to changing market conditions.✔ RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT. I leverage resources by assessing needs, evaluating capacity and finding partners who can help maximize our productivity.✔ COMMUNICATION. Transparency is more than a nice idea; it’s about messaging (and when needed, overcommunicating) to each audience in a way they can hear. ✔ DATA ANALYSIS. My math degree made me a metrics enthusiast. I believe in the value of data to inform decisions and show us where to pivot our strategies.✔ FINANCIAL STEWARDSHIP. I try to balance risk with innovation when making investments. Understanding a board’s appetite for both is the best recipe for success.Connect with me at: mbarry927@gmail.com
