Michael Barth is Managing Partner of Barth & Associates LLC, an independent Emerging Markets investment advisory firm. Mr. Barth is a member of several Boards of Directors and Investment/Advisory Committees of emerging markets oriented banks and funds including vehicles managed by Africinvest, TriLinc Global and Exagon Impact. He is Chairman of the Development Finance Institutions Council of the Global Private Capital Association (GPCA) and has been involved in a range of advisory assignments, including recent work for the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and McKinsey & Company. Previously he served on a number of emerging markets finance oriented fund and company boards and committees (private equity, microfinance, impact finance).Prior to his current position he held different senior jobs at Darby Overseas Investments Ltd., an emerging markets private equity specialist and (then) subsidiary of Franklin Templeton Investments. Before Darby he completed his term of almost six years as Chief Executive Officer of FMO, the AAA rated international development bank of the Netherlands, specializing in emerging markets project finance/private investment and capital markets development. In his last two years at FMO, Mr. Barth also served as Chairman of the European Association of private sector-oriented Development Finance Institutions (EDFI). Prior to his tenure at FMO, he was Director of the Capital Markets Development Department at the World Bank and held several senior positions at the International Finance Corp. (IFC), the World Bank’s private sector arm. At IFC he was responsible for investments in a number of financial sector intermediaries in Asia and Africa, Latin America and Central & Eastern Europe. While at the IFC, he also served as the Corporation’s Financial Controller. Prior to the IFC, he held several positions in Citicorp in the U.S, the Netherlands and Ireland and he was an economist at the Hudson Institute in Paris.Michael Barth holds a Masters Degree in International Affairs/Economics from the Johns Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies, and a Bachelor's Degree in Economics (hons.) from Brandeis University.
