After 30 years in General Practice I have had the opportunity to follow my passion in primary care and now translate my experience as a senior associate in a mainstream multi-doctor practice into the ACCHO sector. I have also been driven by the importance of teaching at an undergraduate and postgraduate level. Over the years my experience has included being a GPR Supervisor, mentor, Medical Educator (for overseas trained doctors), and board member of our regional GP Training Organisation. I was also the GP representative on the MCCC GPTP Pastoral and Learning Support Panel for 5 years, helping decide and direct registrars whose progress was struggling within the training program. I have taken this love for adult learning in all its asptects into my work within the ACCHO sector and remote clinics. The other part of my experience while being a G.P. in a regional centre for 25 years, was to represent General Practice within our GP Network structure. I was a board member for many years of the Border GP Division and then Network, holding the Chair position of the board for 7 years - a period of significant restructure and transition. The opportunity to extend the influence of my skills across an organisation with a focus on population health and the ability to interact with local and national organisations to improve the health of our community was a great privilege. From 2020 to September 2024 I worked at Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Service, initially as Senior Medical Officer, and for the final 6 months as GP for the KAMS Remote Clinics. The skills and cultural insights I have gained from working with such an organisation will guide me in my ongoing practice as a locum.
