The second time I worked for SupplyPoint (February 2001 to July 2007, as well as in a limited capacity as a techincal writer until 2010), I worked primarily in a support capacity, in a call center supporting end users and distributors of SupplyPoint's line of supply chain systems. At times I was asked to work in other capacities, helping during training sessions and performing revisions to the User's Guide, since these are duties I had performed the first time around.

I started when SupplyPoint was getting off the ground, so I performed a wide variety of tasks during the period of its earliest growth, from taking part in manufacturing equipment to the more technical duties I was hired for. My initial role was as an installation and support technician for the SupplyPoint tool distribution center, which existed under different trade names. In this capacity, I traveled to customer sites, set up equipment, and trained both end users and administrators in use of the system. As the company grew, my installation role shrunk and I provided more remote support, via phone or remote-control software. I also took ownership of the User's Guide, revising and expanding as new product functionalities were developed. I also developed ancillary technical documentation for different audiences as well as job-specific materials and checklists.A major role that emerged was that of being a principal trainer. As our product achieved greater reach, distributors and sales staff began performing more of the installation duties, requiring them to become certified on the product line, We hosted four-day training seminars to give personnel the requisite mechanical, electrical, and technological knowledge to install and support both the hardware and the software. I developed most of these materials and usually conducted about 2/3 of the course. After leaving SupplyPoint in 2007 to return to graduate school I periodically returned to update materials to cover new functionalities and changes to the product line for about three years.
