EES provides energy consulting to end use customers for total energy management. Including legislative and regulatory management, tariff analysis, contract analysis, energy strategy & policy development, hedging strategy, usage analysis, utility company intervening services and consulting services. Services include participation in regulated and de-regulated natural gas & electric markets.

Greater Detroit Area

Managed the DTE distribution system Frequent Outage program. The program identifies & repairs electrical circuits with numerous outages and is budgeted at ~$15M per year. Completed the 2015, 2016 & 2017 programs on time & under budget. Activities include identifying circuits to be repaired, then working with Engineering, Design, Planning and outside contractors to facilitate the required repairs. Project management includes monitoring the projects from conception to completion including all aspects of the PMBOK. Also managed the rebuild of three (3) DTE substations which were completed ahead of schedule & below budget.

Managed electricity and natural gas deliveries for seven (7) steel mills in (5) five states with total responsibilities of ~$150 M annually. Responsibilities included electric energy, transmission, distribution, natural gas commodity & pipeline negotiations. Responsibilities included negotiating contracts with regulated electric & natural gas utility companies regarding tariff rates, volumes, terms & conditions and special contracts. Also participate in deregulated natural gas purchases from marketers via semi-annual RFP’s. Achieved > $8 M in cost savings annually through contract, regulatory, legislative and demand management successes. Participated in numerous state Industrial Intervening groups which required developing and maintaining both legislative & regulatory relationships in numerous states. Supported plant level cross functional energy teams at each mill which met monthly to achieve predetermined strategies to reduce electric & natural gas costs. Met quarterly with all mill Vice Presidents to discuss local and global energy market conditions to identify both short term and long term energy risks that impact EBITDA. Develop budgets for electricity & natural gas for each mill via models based on the actual utility tariffs.

Managed procurement responsibility for electricity and natural gas for 19 major cement plants and 200 concrete plants located in over 22 states & and 2 provinces. Activities included the strategic development of the corporate energy policy, coordination with governmental affairs regarding climate change, development of hedging strategies, identifying energy exposures, negotiating tariffs/contracts with utility companies and market entities for power, transmission and distribution rates and natural gas, pipeline capacity, storage, etc. in both regulated and de-regulated markets, co-generation and self generation development, annual budget development, development and leading the corporate cross functional energy team, participation in state and federal intervening groups, implementing Demand Management programs, coordinated activities with alternative fuels group and manage energy consultant contracts.

Assisted in the coordination of all aspects of Strategic Energy’s daily business activities. Responsibilities included analysis of new market entry process and overseeing contract development, electronic data interchange, load forecasting, scheduling electrical power, sales and retail billing. Worked in New Product Development Group designing electricity price models unique to each market. Price model development required market knowledge of State and Federal Regulatory issues, load factors, ancillary costs, losses, taxes and all other aspects of electricity costing.Designed price model for Consolidated Edison in New York resulting in sales of 100 Megawatts yearly and assisted the sales department in the successful response to an RFP resulting in an additional 250 Megawatts yearly of US Government power load in California. Combined projects added $91M in annual sales revenue.
