Our goal is for the patients to be as independent as possible for their reintegration into society. As a healthcare assistant, I assist the patient along this path by:- Assisting in the development of plans for the patients treatment and recovery. - Observation of and reporting on the patients mental state, general and social conduct, and habits. - Getting to know the patients in order to understand them how we can individually tailor our care to provide them with the best possible service. - Assisting patients with daily activities. - Supporting patients who are experiencing distress or clinically related behaviours. - Assisting patients to resolve personal issues - General admin duties to assist with the functioning of the ward.However the role cannot be defined merely by what we do, as how we do it is equally important. Every action is oriented towards helping the patient to feel safe, supported, cared for, happy, and healthy - feelings which are invaluable towards their recovery. This is not always easy due to a variety of factors: the complexity of the patients illnesses, the speed at which we have to make decisions, and the difficulty of some of the situations we have to manage. Ultimately, this can be achieved with great care, empathy, and the ability to get to know, understand, and relate to the patients. Show less
