Providing the department plans on time and within budget; while maintaining design standards for highway construction. Duties include: fulfilling microfilm requests for the public, assisting in the preparation of design exceptions for FHWA, preparation of job special provisions, performing highway safety analyses, project cost estimation, and conceptual report writing. In addition, becomming proficient in Microstation, Geopak, and BidTabs.

One of two full time engineers assigned to the procurement for the $22 million I-44/Rte. 141 design-build project. Duties included assisting in deliverables, budget, and schedule oversight for the preliminary engineering services. Also, procuring additional professional services to help clear a project footprint for optimum industry participation. Assisted in the contract writing as well as the administrative tasks associated with initial project startup. Attended public meetings to discuss concerns with residents of Valley Park. Provided consultation during the selection process, as well as reviewed final design submittals. Primary point of contact for: contract language, project budget, disadvantaged business and workforce diversity, and utility coordination. I worked with consultants and other departments to provide nearly half a million dollars in savings to the preliminary engineering budget. Contract writing process provided exposure to a number of engineering considerations including: threatened and endangered species, public involvement, Army Corps levee avoidance, congestion and mitigation funding requirements, historic preservation, traffic engineering, structural considerations, underground storage tank removal, soil analysis, public park/land avoidance, utility coordination, budget reviews, schedule revisions, third party involvement, right of way considerations, historic flooding, bonding and insurance questions, legal consultation, sound studies, and most importantly - working as a team.

Brought on during the final construction months of this award winning and successful design-build project. Duties were to assist the core DOT and contractor staff with finishing and closing out the project.

Assisted the Resident Engineer with administering the on-call maintenance contracts for the St. Louis District. Prioritizes, schedules, estimates, and inspects the pavement maintenance contracts which take place within the St. Louis, St. Charles, Franklin, and Jefferson counties as well as St. Louis City. Utilizes and incorporates new technologies in highway engineering and maintenance to increase the life of the pavements as well as stretch the value of the money spent. Incorporates GIS software to track trends in pavement failures and manage repairs already made within the system. Keeps the repairs within the annual budget and utilizes databases to help project future budget needs for this division.

Engineer responsible for the fabrication of over 150 prestressed bridges to be made for the Safe and Sound Program and used throughout the state of Missouri. Worked with St. Louis Prestress to ensure bridges were built on time as well as specification compliant and structurally sound. Acted as the on-site Quality Management representative for the joint venture company KTU Contractors. Utilized an understanding of construction methods, bridge design, plan reading, scheduling, Quality Control, and attention to detail to see project to successful completion.

Performed project manager duties for a number of small to intermediate sized projects including Intelligent Transportation System infrastructure updates, signal and lighting work, bridge repair/rehabilitation, earthwork, paving, striping, signing, drainage, guardrail, and surveying. Duties included scheduling, contractor payment, specification compliance, and contract administration.

Audited department staff to ensure contract compliance as well as to secure federal funding for future highway projects. Performed contract administration for projects including setting up sampling and testing requirements for construction materials to be used for jobs.

Inspected numerous Precast and Prestressed concrete members for highway bridge and drainage projects. Utilized an understanding of construction materials, construction methods, and plan reading to ensure pre-fabricated structural components met department standards.

Became familiar with material production and uses for highway construction. Examples would include quarrying practices, asphalt production, and concrete production. Sampling and testing of many related components as well as utilizing Quality Control, Quality Assurance, and Quality Management practices for the aforementioned
