Combined Insurance is one of the UK’s largest providers of accident and health insurance, since 2008 a member of the Chubb Group of Companies and prior to that owned by Aon Corporation. Took on additional responsibility for Corporate Communications and Public Relations, building a small team which managed communications to employed staff and contracted agents throughout the UK via intranet/extranet, print and events. The team also acted as a hub for European communications and worked closely with Chubb. Pro-active PR activity and press office work was handled internally by the same team with the support of a retained PR agency. Extensive experience of handling hostile media attention and crisis communication.

Co-lead the creation of a European corporate brand standards document, working closely with the Brand & Consumer Marketing team. Together with graphic design guidelines, this brand book was then rolled out across five European sales operations and subsequently became the basis for Combined Insurance’s Global Brand Standards introduced in 2009. As well as generating design & print savings, the new designs were positively endorsed in consumer and sales research.Took ownership of developing the in-house Sales Incentives & Event Management capability to support Sales Promotions, including reward & recognition, event logistics and design for large annual sales conferences in various European destinations.

Responsible for the creative origination and production of all collateral for all Combined Insurance’s direct to consumer sales operations, including literature and exhibition material. Bringing all design in-house from various agencies not only enabled tighter control over briefing and brand delivery but also made significant savings increasing YOY as the in-house design work increased every year – an endorsement of the quality of the service from in-house clients.Created an in-house audio-visual capability enabling a better solution to the brief. An early ‘customer testimonial’ video was recognized with an award for “Best Customer Video” by the Aon Global Marketing & Communications Committee in 2006. Subsequent output has received widespread acclaim for both quality of communication and value to the business.

On joining, rapidly modernised the department, introducing new Apple Mac DTP systems to replace ‘paste-up’, transforming the volume of work the department could handle and improving turnaround times and costs.

Reporting to the area manager, responsibilities included servicing existing accounts and generating new business. Developed an in depth knowledge of graphic design, reprographic and print processes and technology. Helped numerous design agencies implement Apple Mac desktop publishing systems.
