Principal Engineer

Define the objectives and priorities for the Engineering team while guiding and mentoring its members, and reviewing team output. Monitor and control the Engineering Project Schedule to ensure that project scopes are accurate and are completed by dates committed. Provide technical expertise and support and to the Operations and Quality teams by designing and implementing fixtures and gages, leading internal quality investigations on parts and injection molds, and performing capability studies. Lead efforts at increasing productivity and efficiency by analyzing company-wide bottlenecks and developing methods to streamline those processes. Captured these improvements in the form of Work Instructions and Quality Procedures, and trained all appropriate parties on their use.
Senior Associate R&D Engineer
Acted as one of the lead mechanical engineers on the ContourTM Next® blood glucose monitoring system, and played a large role in bringing the project from the ideation phase through to production. Performed the role of lead mechanical technical writer for the entirety of the ContourTM Next® project, which entailed creating numerous mechanical technical reports that were used to show system design verification throughout the Bayer PACE process. Developed and patented several configurations of a blood glucose sensor dispensing system and compiled these designs into a technical presentation that I presented to various members of the Bayer Executive Leadership Team. Conducted multiple design reviews of various complex engineering projects, and developed FMEA matrices to track and mitigate design concerns. Collaboratively interacted with peers from various disciplines outside of the mechanical group, including the electrical, usability, human factors, global strategic marketing, and systems design teams to achieve project goals and complete product deliverables. Worked rigorously with contract manufacturers to address various design and cost concerns in order to ensure that the end-product was robust, and was delivered on time and within cost constraints. Contributed to several product usability studies by aiding in the creation of both test protocols and engineering prototypes. Participated in the creation of multiple DOE experiments and Gage R&R studies in the Bayer mechanical laboratory. Conducted regular internal audits on various sections of the Diabetes Care business unit to assess their adherence to the ISO 13485 standard and to their written and maintained procedures.
Lead Mechanical Engineer
Created mechanical designs and detailed component and assembly drawings of a tooling fixture based on the input from the core users within the company, and personally machined the assemblies using an in-house 2½-axis milling machine. Supervised the production and implementation of opto-mechanical dental illumination system prototypes.
