The Food Supply Chain Transformation programme is driving sustainable change across stores and support centre teams to deliver improved customer availability and reduced waste, whilst driving a more efficient end-to-end operating model. Accountable for delivery of the programme, reporting into Board level, with a multi-disciplined team including external consultants. This root and branch initiative is fundamental to restoring the basics at M&S, which forms a key part of our recovery strategy. Accountable for establishment and ongoing management of all aspects of programme governance, including regular progress and financial reporting. As the Business Lead for GM reporting, I was responsible for defining and delivering the reporting strategy into the GM business (£4bn business and approximately 700 people), including the development and implementation of all Financial and Operational reporting solutions, driving the use of analytics and big data, as well as data integrity strategy across the General Merchandise Group.

Created by George Davies in 2001, the Per Una business was bought by M&S in 2004. My role as the Head of Per Una Integration was to close the Per Una company and integrate systems and processes into the core M&S operation, without causing disruption to sales and customer availability. The project was delivered on time and to budget, inline with the financial year end, by leading cross disciplined, matrix managed teams, with no impact on the core business or our customers.

At the time, the largest SAP retail implementation worldwide, my role was to represent the General Merchandise business (Clothing and Home) and ensure that the solution was fit for purpose. My specific accountabilities include programme and change management across a a £4bn+ business, employing over 1000 people and working with 2000+ suppliers. More recently, I successfully implemented an e-invoicing solution to all suppliers. M&S now has a 100% e-invoicing solution for 2m+ invoices per annum with first time pass rate in excess of 97% as a result. For this work, I was awarded the global B2B Heroes in the Cloud award for 2012.

Recruited to help establish the Change Portfolio Management Team in M&S, my role as the business Portfolio Manager was to ensure that there was effective management and governance of the corporate change portfolio (circa £300m). Advised the board on an optimised investment portfolio, establishing the prioritisation process and taking the difficult decisions to stop, slow down or accelerate key business programmes.

At the request of Stuart Rose (CEO & Chairman of M&S), I was tasked with leading the Model Health Inquiry on behalf of the British Fashion Council, working with Baroness Kingsmill, to deliver the indsutries response to the skinny model / size zero debate. Development and implementation of new commercial business process for the General Merchandise (all non-food) business. This involved wholesale change of process, people and systems in this area. This programme was often cited as one of the major contributing factors for the business turnaround from 2004 to the end of 2007, prior to the downturn in the economy.
