Michael is the founder and President of Brey Corp. He started Brey Corp. in 1992 with no money and the idea of bringing concepts learned at major retailers like Tandy Corp., Sam Goody and Macy’s to the “mom-and-pop” hobby industry. Brey Corp. acquired local retailer Hobby Works in 1993, growing to five locations in the DC, MD and VA metro area. He is the Managing Director of WingTOTE® a China-based manufacturing company which he acquired out of bankruptcy in 2004. WingTOTE products are sold world-wide. He previously co-founded Chesapeake Sound and Lighting, and Bob The Organism Records, both entertainment companies.Michael has also served on several corporate boards, including the Finance Committee of Dimensions Health Care, a $250M health care provider. As an advocate for small business, Michael has lobbied for issues on the both the local and national stage. He has been an invited guest of President Obama at two of his televised events announcing small business initiatives. He has worked with esteemed Senators on both sides of the aisle such as: Sen. Mary Landrieu, Sen. Stabenow, Sen. Lincoln, Sen. Olympia Snowe; as well as members of the House, including: Majority Leader Rep. Steny Hoyer and Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi and been an invited guest at bill signings. He worked with the Obama administration on health care issues affecting small businesses and the 2009 Small Business Jobs Act. On dozens of occasions, Michael has spoken at televised press conferences, testified before members of Congress and been invited to the White House; personally meeting President Obama and members of his cabinet on multiple occasions. Michael has been a runner up in Ernst and Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year competition. He is respected as a commentator and speaker and has guest lectured at George Washington University’s business school. He has been the subject of profiles in the Edward Lowe Foundation newsletter, and Consumer Reports magazine. As a leading small business advocate, he is often sought out for comment by major national business publications. Michael has been quoted many times in: The Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Forbes Business, Consumer Reports, USA Today, The Washington Times and others. He also appears on television and radio to comment on the effects of current events on small business.
