As an Assistant Community Director, I had to be able to communicate information effectively between faculty, staff members and residents that live within the residence halls. This information varied in importance from teaching staff how to do room inspections to instructing residents on how to check-out of their rooms properly. I also have interpersonal and problem solving skills that have developed in the time that I have been in this position. Also, open-mindedness and an appreciation for diversity is also something that I have gained from my experience as an Assistant Community Director because I encountered many diverse residents. As a member of the Student Orientation Staff, I was required to take a leadership class that taught me about UL and how to use that knowledge to help educate prospective freshmen about UL and the college experience. We gave presentations showcasing everything that UL had to offer, the value of getting involved in extracurricular activities, and the importance of diversity among a group of people and lastly we taught them how to schedule classes for the upcoming semester. These experiences have helped me gain these valuable skills that could be applied to many job opportunities.
