  Inspection of food premises including catering outlets, retailers, manufacturers and premises approved under specific regulations. Investigation of food complaints, ranging from simple issues which can be resolved in person, to complex enquiries requiring laboratory analysis and dealing with overseas production plants.Serving of notices, including food hygiene improvement notices and notices relating to drainage, pests and the removal of trade waste.Producing letters, inspection reports, improvement notices and legal files. I have taken evidence for both food hygiene/standards and health and safety cases, and have represented the council in subsequent legal proceedings. Investigation of complaints relating to noise and odour to determine whether a statutory nuisance exists, and have taken action to resolve issues, whether or not a statutory nuisance was shown to exist.Investigation of cases and suspected cases of infectious diseases and have also assisted during outbreaks of suspected foodborne disease. Inspection of premises for licence, permit and registration applications.Presenting food hygiene training courses to the authority’s catering staff and, in a more informal setting, giving food safety talks to members of the public.Examination of various planning applications and commented where appropriate.Attending meetings with solicitors and barristers in order to discuss legal proceedings. I regularly liaise with officers from other authorities to discuss food complaints and other issues relating to food businesses in Wolverhampton. I have also attended training courses and standardisation exercises with officers from other authorities. Authorised to act as an inspector under current food and health and safety regulations.
