I am responsible for the care of 2 children while their father, a single parent, is busy with work and activities. Both children that I watch are boys, pre-k and grade school ages. I mainly keep the younger one company and entertain him while the older child goes off to do his own thing. I make dinner for both of them and myself there at least 3x a week on average. I help the older child with school work when he has homework to do, and will also read to the younger one when he is up for it.

I learned how to deal with the public in general and manage the expectations of wealthy patrons in particular. I eventually became a shift supervisor, but went back to being a barista because I didn’t necessarily need the extra money at the time and valued my freedom to work when I wanted rather than only when the company needed me to. I also learned how to make many different types of coffee drinks, and would still consider myself to be a skilled barista, despite being out of the trade for the last few years. The best part of this job by far and away was the people I worked with, followed by the free food I got to bring home; this company was very wasteful in having all the food prepared in the beginning of the day that we would sell though the night time.
