About Michael Cahill

I have been a Partner in Albert Goodman LLP since 2015, and specialise in providing accounting, tax and commercial advice to family and owner managed business across a wide range of sectors (property development, manufacturing, engineering, wholesale and retail to name a few) and throughout their business life cycle (startup to exit).The keen interest in family businesses is born from my parents setting up their own business in 1995 which they still run today. The experiences I have shared with them have allowed me to not only advise clients on accounting and tax matters but also understand the emotional pressures they face as well.I provide clients with pro-active, jargon free, simple to understand advice and help them find solutions to the issues they face which are innovative but practical.Alongside the day job I have held a number of Board level positions, am Judge of the Somerset Business Awards Family Business of the Year category and a Coach with Huish Tigers Youth Football Club.

    I was Treasurer and a member of the management committee for Trull Saplings Preschool, a registered charity, with an aim of advancing the education of children below compulsory school age. The preschool achieved a "Good" Ofsted rating in 2016 and January 2022. In Feb 2018 the preschool required a sustainability grant from the Local Council to enable it to continue operating and therefore during my tenure the committee worked hard to improve the financial stability of the preschool through fundraising activities and increasing the number of children attending the setting. We were successful in achieving this despite the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. We also adapted our policies and procedures throughout Covid-19 to enable the Preschool to remain open throughout. Initially this was for the children of keyworkers only but we were gradually able to welcome more children as time passed,

    Founded in 2010, BIS is a community interest company that assists 12-18 year olds within Somerset/Devon along with helping schools deliver enterprise training and curriculum.Our focus and delivery is based around developing young people who have ideas and drive in becoming business owners - no matter how big or small.Through a series of phased interactions (workshops, Dragon's Den assessment, and one-to-one support) with experienced business people (mentors), young people with business ideas will, where judged appropriate, be able to develop their ideas into real businesses, supported and funded initially by 'Business Initiative for Schools'.Our success was recently recognised when we won an Enterprise Britain award at the House of Lords, presented by BBC Dragon Peter Jones.
