Deputy Fire Commissioner is the Senior level Executive position that plans, organizes and directs the activities of the the Bureau. The Deputy Fire Commissioner reports to the Fire Commissioner for the operational, fiscal, administrative, and personnel functions of the bureau, one of four bureaus within the Chicago Fire Department. Ensures the appropriate enforcement of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and ensures policy and procedural orders are enforced. There are seven functional divisions within the Bureau of Logistics. Those divisions are: Fire Suppression Logistics, EMS Logistics, Breathing Apparatus Services, Internet Technology, Building & Property Management, Office of Emergency Management & Communications (OEMC) Liaison and Department Commissary.Develops and administers an annual non-personnel operating budget in excess of $10 million, which includes productivity reports, as well as strategic tactical objectives and initiatives, including the efficient management of the budget by initiating, monitoring and tracking purchases through the utilization of the Finance Management System (FMS). Also develops and administers an annual equipment note budget in excess of $25 million, which includes primary responsibility for the specification and authorization for the purchase of new apparatus and equipment. Regularly meets and strategizes with representatives of other city agencies relative to interdepartmental cooperation in meeting the needs of the fire department.Also assumes on-call, city-wide emergency response duties to command suppression and extinguishment operations at large-scale fires, technical rescue operations, hazardous materials mitigation, emergency medical incidents and other major emergency incidents as the Incident Commander. While on-call, is responsible for 5000 sworn members, 300 civilian members, 100 firehouses and well over 300 apparatuses.

Assistant Deputy Fire Commissioner is an upper level Executive position that implements and manages the Fire Commissioner's plans and ensures compliance with departmental policies and procedures. The Assistant Deputy Fire Commissioner ensures strict compliance with all regulations, as they relate to all personnel and in all facilities throughout the city. Reports directly to the Fire Commissioner on operational, disciplinary, and collective bargaining agreement matters. Commands suppression and extinguishment operations at large-scale fires and directs responses at a wide variety of emergencies on an on-call basis throughout the city.

Division Chief is a mid-level Executive position that implements and manages the Fire Commissioner's plans and ensures compliance with departmental policies and procedures. The District Chief manages all three platoons of Battalion Chiefs in the district and is responsible to the Assistant Deputy Fire Commissioner.As the District Chief, developed and implemented new policies and procedures and oversaw the implementation of new technology to advance and refine ARFF emergency response and preparedness at O’Hare and Midway International Airports. Administered a $2+ million annual operating budget. Coordinated cross-functional and inter-agency alliances to ensure effective collaboration. Was also able to develop apparatus specifications for cutting-edge Airport Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) apparatus and firefighting equipment in addition to ARFF small tools and equipment for rescue, hazardous materials, and EMS incidents.Was called upon to contribute to the O’Hare Modernization Project, FAA-mandated training programs, Regional Live Burn exercises, and ARFF certification requirements.

Deputy Division Chief is the initial level Executive position that implements and manages the Fire Commissioner's plans and ensures compliance with departmental policies and procedures. The Deputy District Chief manages a platoon of Battalion Chiefs at the district level and is responsible to the District Chief.

Battalion Chief is the upper level front line supervisory position within the Fire Department that reports directly to the Deputy District Chief of Operations. Each Battalion Chief is assigned a major functional area of the organization to manage. Battalion Chiefs are responsible for the day to day operations of emergency service delivery. Battalion Chiefs conduct regular performance reviews to ensure that battalions are ready for any and all exigencies. Battalion Chiefs develop and implement operational and executive improvement plans for the battalion.

Captain is a mid-level front line supervisory position, that reports directly to the Fire Battalion Chief. Each Captain is assigned to a platoon, but is responsible for his platoon as well as two other platoons commanded by lieutenants. The Captain also bears ultimate responsibility for the apparatus, the firehouse, and all assigned members. Their immediate crew includes a minimum of four other firefighters. They are responsible for responding to emergency service requests and other related duties and to provide leadership and supervision to those firefighters assigned to them. Captains are also assigned a programmatic area of responsibility within the Fire District.

Lieutenant is the initial front line supervisory position, that reports directly to the Fire Captain. Each Lieutenant is assigned to a platoon. Their immediate crew includes a minimum of four other firefighters. They are responsible for responding to emergency service requests and other related duties and to provide leadership and supervision to those firefighters assigned to them. Lieutenants are also assigned a programmatic area of responsibility within the Fire District.

Firefighter is an entry level position responsible for following the direction of their immediate supervisor relative to the delivery of services. Firefighters are responsible for the delivery of fire, rescue and EMS services. They conduct annual company inspections, provide public outreach and education and a variety of other services related to first responders.
